I have an i3 2120, along with my r9 270x its done me well for a very long time. I saw someone on the MM selling an i5 2400. Would I be getting much of an upgrade with the i5? Would I be better off waiting and looking for some other i5? The various types of I% seem to be selling from about £30 to £70.

It would depend what motherboard you have, if you have an overclocking board such as the P67 or Z77 then you can probably fit an i7 3770k and overclock. If you have a non overclocking board I would be tempted to look for a xeon, which at that socket is basically a cheaper non overclocking i7.

Not really interested in overclocking. Just wanted to get as much performance boost with an i5 as possible (keeping cost to around £50).

Ill take a look at the xeons, see if they are in my price range. Thanks.
