Hey guys ,

just need some advice on a suitable processor to select for mainly professional audio mixing ... i.e. will any recent (i.e. up to 1.5yr old ) Intel/AMD suffice e.g. P4 3.2 or an A64 3200 ....

or do I need a current generation Core 2 / or an FX55?

on a similar note whats best for gaming and video processing?

I assume a fast Core 2 duo would suit the above?

thanks!

:)

FX55 is way overpriced even if you can still get hold of one...even the bottom of the range core 2 duo would run rings around it I think....for gaming im not sure but I imagine the core2s are the best for this also, and theyre definitely the best processor to get for video processing.

Sorry, not sure about audio mixing....I imagine the processors in the range like the 3200 A64 and P4 3200 would do the job easily but obviously not as well as the most recent chips.

Hi

I use Photoshop & Premier quite a bit, Buy yourself a E6600 or above, the 4MG Cache will provide you with enough back bone for what you want it to do.

Although I am an AMD fan I also recommend Intel CPUs for audio and video applications.
FX are very expensive.
E6300 or E6600 (it depends on your budget).

I also agree here, Intel all the way :)
I do a lot of video editing, tried a few amd 64's recently and none of them had the smoothness of an intel, compressing into different formats is good on both cpu types but for fast mpeg2 work the intel just owns big time

Conroe,

The only way right now.

Editing in premier is now really zippy on my pc.So much faster than my opty 170 @ 2.8ghz :)

I agree accept nothing but Conroe! :)
