Ive got a p35c ds3r board and have £150 to play with. What can i get cpu and ram wise thats an upgrade on my e6600 and 2 gig bog standard ram?. Any help appreciated.

I'd overclocky our e6600 it should reach 3.4ghz easily and wait for new i5/i7 range to be released as upgrading on socket 775 isnt really a good idea when theres new hardware around the corner, althou thats always the case. if your determined to upgrade id probably go with a q9450 or stretch to a q9550 (better overlocking potentional)

Well I would try to grab another 2gb of the same ram or a 4gb matched kit and clock your e6600 to 3.4-3.6ghz

Not worth spending on that system now. I would consider selling your parts 2nd hand as you will get about £100 for the mobo, ram and CPU. I would then buy an AMD 955, a Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 Mobo and the 4GB Dominator XMS3 on this week only. this will cost you £290, but be well worth the little bit over budget as you will have a fully up to date system.

Edit - Got distracted in work and missed your post whilst replying, if just for repair I would get a cheap C2D for your son and decent 4GB DDR2 PC1066 for your system to overclock, or grab a 2nd hand Q6600 for about £80 on the MM
