Processor hitting high temperatures, need advice on what to do next! Pretty sure it's a cooler problem.

I recently upgraded from an I7 9900K to the I9 9900ks and I had a few troubles at first but managed to get the computer running (first time replacing a CPU) at first I thought everything was alright but saw that my computer was hitting temperatures of 40 degrees at Idle and 80 playing Minecraft !!!. I have narrowed stuff down and I think I either screwed up with the thermal paste twice or my cooler is not good enough for this CPU, I'm set on it being a cooler issue however I don't really know if my cooler is good enough or not for this processor. If it is a cooler problem, I desperately need to know what cooler to get, will it keep up with the I9 9900ks and will it fit my case. I have had a talk with my local "PC repair man" and a corsair professional. The local repair man said recommended I come here and the corsair professional recommended that I take the two fans from the front of my case and replace it with the H150i pro cooler. To be quite honest, I'm really not great with replacing things in my computer I have never done before which is why the Processor took me so long to replace. I just need to know what the best thing for me to do is, I am open to buying the H150i cooler if it would fit but I am not sure how to do it and would most likely have to talk to a PC handy man unless there is a tutorial for this exact problem out there haha. If there are any cheaper coolers that would work I am definitely up for that too! Here are my specs:

Also just a short summary - Pretty sure I am having a cooler problem as my new beefy CPU is hitting high temps, not sure what cooler to get that will keep up and fit my case, not sure how I would be able to put it all together either.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

First off check the obvious and the most obvious is that have you plugged in the power to the pump? The three pin plug should plug into the AIO header on your motherboard. You can find it below the rear heatsink, just above the small pci-e slot, the topmost of the two headers there.

If you have done this is the pump running? You should be able to feel some vibration if you put your finger on it or better still have a look in the bios to see how many rpm the pump is running at.

I also agree with a couple of the others in thatif you can still return it then do so. It's a pointless upgrade and a pointless cpu.

Unfortunately I bought this from EBay so I am unable to return it, I did a bottleneck test with my original parts and it seemed there was some bottleneck over 5% and so I had a look at what the website recommended and was told that with the motherboard I have, the “best” cpu I could fit was the i9 9900k and the Ks and ultimately decided on the Ks, didn’t think I’d end up with this much trouble but I am a beginner so I should have really foreseen it . I haven’t touched the pump but the black tubes were vibrating and the bios says it is running so I think that’s all okay.

What makes you think it's too hot? The 9900k/s do run very hot, I think those were around my temps on mine (with H115i cooler, overclocked to 5Ghz).

None of that seems out of the ordinary.

Those temps with that CPU are fine.

80C under load sounds fine for a 9900KS (or even just a 9900K) with a 120mm water cooler (i.e. probably no better than an equivalent air cooler would manage)

Just gonna copy and paste this to the similar replies lol but 80 degrees playing Minecraft never happened before and the fan of the cooler was going crazy whilst this was happening, even heard buzzing noises at points coming from the computer. The game was choppy/laggy etc so something is definitely wrong lol. I’m only assuming I need a new cooler or to attempt to sell the cpu on eBay

If you can still return the 9900KS and put the 9900K back in then I suggest you do so. This is one of the most totally pointless cpus Intel have ever released.

Like said above, the KS chips do run incredibly hot because they are on the very edge of what can be achieved with that particular architecture.

Edit - I saw you said you had the i7 9900k which looks like a typo. If you actually had an i7 9700k then it is still a pointless upgrade in most cases.

Hyperthreading makes almost no difference in gaming performance.

Yeah I had the i7 9900k, I wanted to upgrade as I ran into a few problems when trying to play high demanding games and also decided to run a bottleneck test and found that my cpu and graphics card weren’t very compatible and didn’t want to downgrade. Clearly the i9 9900ks wasn’t the greatest idea
