Processor missing :(

Hi

ive just reinstalled windows xp on my sony sz2m/b using the factory installation cd but have just noticed that only one of the processor is working as it is a 1.66 core duo and when i check the windows task manger only one core appear and i have check the option to have one graph per cpu so i was wondering if some one could shed some light on this because i have found that my computer is sluggish compare to usually so i know there is something up with it. do i need drivers

Can you not just go into device manager and remove the processor and scan for new hardware? Then it should pickup both cores, I think...

Is Windows up-to-date, i.e. latest patches, fixes, updates, etc?

Check also in BIOS that Dual-Core is not off (can do that with AMD's X2)

I think my post is a bit rubbish, in device manager was having a look... Under "computer" does it say ACPI Multiprocessor machine?
That's the one to faff around with...

Have you installed the latest device drivers for the notebook from the Sony website?

It could be disabled in the BIOS.

I had to enabled my two extra cores when I upgraded to quad.

But if I read all you did was reinstall XP, fiddled with the BIOS at all still?

thx every one for the help just managed to fix uninstalling the processer god know what went wrong lol thx anyway
