hello,

im after a new computer and looking into building one. however im unsure whether to get an amd or the new intel core 2 duo, total price is around 475 inc monitor etc..

any help appreciated.

thanks

I would get a Intel CPU, they are leading the market when it come's to CPU's. Plus the route to get intel will be cheaper than going AMD and a lot faster.

AMD is always cheaper than their Intel counterpart. Go AMD if you're on a very tight budget.

Seconded, you'll get a better spec AMD machine than Intel for that sort of money.

Jokester

Edit: Unless you're overclocking.

Any of the AMD64 X2 AM2 processors are fine, its up to you how much you want to spend on it, the only real difference between them is clockspeeds. If you are only mainly using it for internet and office purposes, then the low-end one will be fine.

Total of £364.17 so far, with remaining 105.83 to spend on a Case, Hard Drive, Optical Drive, keyboard and mouse. Haven't picked these for you because i don't know if you have any spares or not. Graphics card you can change to a cheaper one if you wish, same with the processor.

Hope that helps

You think he really needs a 600W PSU?.... could eaily get by on a decent 400W with that system...... though i'm sure a 500W would fit the budget just fine and be ample amounts.

300W would run that, there seems to be a trend on this forum of reccomending 600W+ psus for some reason.

Not really, take a look at some athlon x2 6000+ benchmarks vs the E6750 (which is cheaper btw).
