Looking to get a laptop for uni, now it will be used for general day to day stuf and a bit of gaming, just wandering is it better to go with the i5-2410M or the i7-2630QM, better to go with a higher clock speed or 4 cores over 2? Also would you recommend the GT540 over the 520?

Get the laptop with the GT540M. It is much faster than the GT520M.

Any of the CPUs are fine for gaming, although the i7 may have an edge in more modern games due to two extra physical cores. The 540M will be much better for gaming compared to the 520M.

Just keep in mind that if you get a I7 processor, to make sure its a "QM"... too many I7 laptops on the market that claim to be quad core (HT emulated) when they arnt.

Go for the i7. You never know when you might need those extra two cores.

Do you need battery life? If so, DO NOT get an i7. Pointless if its for gaming / day to day use anyway. Just stick with an i5.
