Procurve PSU appears to have gone pop overnight!

Just a quick one to see if anyone else has had this, so I know what to expect!

Got called in to work this morning (School holidays, so not in for 6 weeks) as there was no connection around the place, turns out our 96 point core switch in the main cab was powered off, wouldn't power back on, and the psu is just clicking, I'm not sure if the switch has blown or just failed, and if so what to expect in terms of what it could have taken with it!

have already logged it with HP who are coming out to us asap, I'm just trying to gauge if anyone has had anything happen similar and what it took out?

Switch is a HP 5406-48G zl

But with 96 ports in (4 modules)

Never had a PSU go in one of these myself but seen some blow in 6500 and 4500 series Catalysts with no issues. Depends if the spike traversed the backplane I guess

The HP offshore support were telling me to try a new PSU etc.. like I'm meant to have a spare procurve psu around, thats what we pay our support contract for!

I'm assuming the clicking is the sign of a dead PSU, silly thing is it has actually been running off the mains since we had it, and last night was its first night on a UPS, coincidence?

No, not at all. Looks like there could have been a problem with the UPS that caused it. Double check your UPS settings etc...

The UPS has been running a set of standard 48 port 1GB procurves for eons, no real settings to check as it is one of the big beast standalone UPS's, not a rackmount one.
