Hi, I am putting together a spec for a new computer. I am looking to get the best possible pc for around 1-1.3k. I am a bit out of the loop as the last PC I bought was a P4, so I am looking for a bit of advise to see if I can do anything to improve my current draft spec.

I will not be over clocking anything
I will be using one LCD (Dell UltraSharp U2713H 27")
I have a existing SSD and a 2tb disks which I can reuse.

My current spec is:

Is their anything obviously missing from this?

I've gone for the i5 rather than the i7 as I read their is basically no different as far as gaming. [1]

I am unsure if the AMD card is the best bang for buck, or if I am better of getting something like a KFA2 GeForce GTX 680 EX OC 4096MB Graphics Card which is 30 quid cheaper.

I wouldn't rule out overclocking since the mobo you are looking at is designed to do so. 16GB of RAM is OTT for gaming. A modular PSU would be nice and if you will only use a single GPU then 500W'ish is ample really. The cooler you picked is really to help with OC'ing but I think it needs fans.

How did you manage to get 2x7970, 2xi5, 2x Sniper mobo and 2x Osmium keyboards for that price?
Buy buy buy :D

Great thanks for the spec, I think the PSU, the keyboard, mouse and the Gfx card you recommended are definitely better than my original.

My only question was about the cooler. I would like it to be as quiet as possible. Which is the main reason I choose the megahalems. It was advertised as being 10db. You are right I missed adding a fan - It is advertised as being 18db which is still less than a whisper in a library.

Prolimatech Blue Megahalems CPU Cooler
Prolimatech Blue Vortex Blue Wings 140mm Fan

Any thoughts on the pros and cons of the h80 vs the megahalems?

I would go with the megahalems every day of the week, great cooler.. Pair it with a silent fan and your laughing. :)

I think the H80 was include to keep the price down.

Thanks for the replies. Here is what I have so far:

I've got a decent keyboard and mouse, so I think I would rather spend the money on the cpu and gfx. Setting my budget at 1.2k.

Can I do better with any of theses parts? Slightly concerned about the PSU, but I wanted to end up with a very quiet rig.

Other parts (which I already have) that will be fitted in the computer will be: SanDisk Extreme SSD, 3TB disk, and a Xonar Sound card.

Just a idea but consider the Corsair AX series power supplies if you can afford it. Most of the time the fan on mine never spins up.

Cost you a extra £40 but gives you a extra 300w if you ever were to need it.

Just to add - you really want to spend the extra for the "K" spec CPU even if not overclocking. In my experience the non-K ones lose their value a lot faster and at resale time you'll have a much easier time shifting it for a half decent price. :)
