Got a frame on order but thought I'd touch base here as I know a few endorse the Shans (SuperCow, etc).

I'm 6"3 and historically have had a large (19") Orange Crush is offers probably the closest production geometry the Shan of the bikes I've ridden.

I like them slightly smaller than I probably should have for ease of chucking around.

Question then is, should I Large Frame the Shan, or Extra Large?

I'd personally go XL if I were 6.3"... but you admittedly say you like them small, so L then?

I'm 177CM (think that's 5.10") , and I rode both the M and L, and preferred the L size. I like em bigger though, but with short stems.

I am about 5'10" and I ride a large too... I sometimes wonder if an M might have been better - my Yeti is an M size but it is as long as a very long thing so the Shan in L is a pretty close match for geo.

I've spoken with PP and they recommend the XL, again with a short stem. Quite keen for this build. Looking XTR 1x11 groupset. I assume the BB will be OK here.

Also, I'm quite the Fox fan. are 36 overkill? BOS or Sectors an option?

I run Revs on mine, would've been Pikes had they made them at the time. I was aiming for a relatively lighter build though, I don't think 36s are particularly overkill for this bike, plenty of people run those. To my particular aesthetic they look a bit too wide for the steel-tubed frame but that's probably just me being weird. BOS also suit it very nicely!

I got my BB from the states, from here: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id258.html
After reading so many tales of woe about press-fit BB it seemed like a good idea as these guys had a very good rep. It's survived a couple of winters happily so far.

All those forks will work on the Shan. I'd go for the Fox36 myself, but both the options you listed will p!ss all over the Sectors.

I used to be a massive BOS fanboy, but Fox have caught them up, their (BOS) quality has severely dropped, and you still get to deal with the lack of support.

Thanks looks good, the Torquetite one I'm guessing?
