I have just tried to play Professor Layton and the Curious Village on my new DSi but it doesn't seem to work. When I try to load the game it says an error has occured and to look at the manual.
The game works fine on my old DS.

I've tried google and it seems a few people are having problems but I haven't found an answer.

Anyone had the same problem and know if it can be fixed.
Thanks

I picked up a DSi on Saturday with Layton and haven't had a problem. I have done a system update though so this maybe it.

How far does it get into the game before you get the error message? Does it load at all or is it a system error which you get as soon as you try to launch it?

It shows the professor layton icon on the menu, as soon as I press it it goes to a black screen with the error.

All of the other games i've tried work fine in the DSi.

I don't think it's the game as I bought it last year from a well known hight street store and it worked fine with my old DS and bros DS Lite.

Was the game new or used when brought it? Far as I am aware the new DSi firmware blocks out all fake DS games.

If you bought it new then get onto either the store or Nintendo and get it replaced.

If it was second hand then it's probably a counterfeit card that's been sold on, as others have said they don't work on the DSi.

Can't remember if it was new or pre owned.

Just compared the card to all my other games and I think it could be counterfeit. :(

The normal ones say EUR on the sticker. Layton says NOE and the sticker is slightly smaller and not on straight.

Thanks for all the help.

yeah it will be counterfit. I had the same problem with Fire emblem I bought off ebay

Dsi Is still region free as I have games from USA that work fine
Nintendo sorted the Dsi it so it dont work with dodgy games

Get a full refund mate

Look at the contacts on the back. That can be a dead giveaway.

Definately a counterfeit, my gf had the same problem

Could you tell me what to look for. I've got exactly the same problem.

I bought it from the auction site, but the seller seems honest. He has excellent feedback, and the game looks genuine. It is the US version, and I've had exactly the same problem with two copies now. Both from the same seller.

I've not seen a fake in a while, but if you compare a fake to a regular one it's fairly clearly different, unless they've got better. The contacts are different lengths, the PCB is a different colour, the writing on there doesn't look right...

If it's done it with two different copies then it sounds like it's probably counterfeit. Does this seller give you the whole package (box, manual etc.) or just the cart?

Feedback can be misleading as the majority of people won't be using DSi's, so for them the game will load and they'll be none the wiser to the fact they've been sold a counterfeit product.

Thanks guys.

Both copies came in what look like the proper box, sealed, with the manual. The card itself looks genuine, with the sticker on straight and the Nintendo wording on the back along with a serial number. The writing definitely looks right, but the contact strips are (ever so slightly) narrower and definitely longer. The little strip of PCB that I can see as the connectors leave the card is green in both instances. Compared to my Brain Training card that is.

All in all, a pretty convincing counterfeit, if indeed it is. The fact that it doesn't work, and the contacts, tend to suggest it's a fake. Oh well, he's replaced it once. Let's see if I can get a refund. :(

The only way we could tell the difference was the packaging, the quality of the printing of the front and back cover and the sticker on the cart were lower res than an original
