Proffesionalism whilst working notice.

Hi all,


Bit of background is that I am a Transport Manager at a well known 3PL.
I was approached by another well known 3PL who I have a contact at who offered me a job as a Transport Manager with a 20% pay increase and all the same perks and opportunities I could think of.

I spoke to my manager to say that I had been approached and gave him the details but didn't hand my notice in as I was generally in two minds as I had a loyalty to my current employer but obviously attracted by the opportunities. I said I have a week to make my mind up to give him a chance to speak to his superiors to possibly look at a counter offer.

His feedback back to me after 1 week was that the head of our sector said that anyone could do my job and I was no great loss. Obviously not what you want to hear but made my decision for me, no counter offer. I am a little hurt as I thought I was doing a pretty good job with a consistant portfolio of increased profit year on year, audits always come out impeccable and staff morale I'm told has never been higher. So I handed my notice Monday and today I was told they have my replacement sorted. No real issue to me because I knew they had to replace me, I was surprised how quick this has happened as in the past they have really dragged their heels with recruitment.

My question now is that I have the best part of a month now to sit out waiting for my notice to end, no sign of them putting me or gardening leave and I expect the new recruit to be in place next week.

So where does that leave me, I'm a little unsure how hands on I need to be as this position is new to me. I have completely lost my drive to continue to produce results as I feel a little let down and now I have a month to go through the motions so to speak.

On the plus side I am looking forward to starting a new chapter of my career but I feel this has been a little overshadowed by the way I have been dealt with because of the lack of respect. Maybe I was just expecting too much.

Never mind - my new job awaits :D
 
For some managers skill level, work ethic and results never matter, it comes down to how much you cost.

For instance, I work mon-fri, 9am until 5:30pm with 30 mins unpaid for lunch. Then they sprung weekends on me, so I do 1 weekend in 6 for a training thing. I study and learn after hours so I can do my job better, I work outside of hours when someone comes to me and says "help, this is broken, I can't upload orders" or the fact I've been remotely encrypting laptops on my own time. I had 3 days off work because I had a stomach virus and the MD put my job up on indeed because I had let them down.

Firstly, I'd say they are doing you a favour by being like this, pushing you onto someone who obviously values skills and results. Secondly, how you play it out comes down to you. Take holidays, sickness or tell them you want gardening leave, or stay, train the new guy and take pride in what you've accomplished so far is in the hands of someone you have trained to carry it on.
 
I wouldn't want to leave on bad terms.
I have got jobs and help from places I used to work at, even though some of them were poor employers.

Train the new guy, if your no longer needed then suggest gardening leave if the new guy doesn't need any help.
 
I really don't want to leave on bad terms so we will see how it plays out.

Took some advice and booked a week off so I only now have 11 working days to see out.
 
You'll most likely need a reference from them so stay in their good books. You never know, you may find yourself back with them one day so maintaining professionalism is a must
