I just got an email from BT saying I have downloaded over 100GB for the month of June and they are limiting my download between 5pm and 12am (like I could go faster than 0.5Mbps at that time anyway). They recommended getting a app to monitor your usage.

Does anyone know a good one that you can reset as the months start?

What is strange is that BT are now offering BT Infinity - "up to 40Mbps Fiber Optic" - how can they not expect users to go over 100GB a month with a 40Mbps connection? This is part of their Fair Usage Policy.

I am actually being upgraded to a 17Mbps connection this Friday (from 1.5Mbps) and I fear I am going to reach that 100GB in a matter of days every month.

How are you legitimately using that much bandwidth with a 1.5Mbps connection? I am genuinely intrigued.

Theoretically, that is over 8 days constant downloading at your max speed. Are you newsgrouping/torrenting over night? I'm not here to judge, I'm just struggling to imagine how much porn that actually is.

As for monitoring bandwidth, I can't recommend a specific one, but there are loads of free ones on Google. http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...itor+bandwidth&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

im not even sure myself, I do torrent overnight, but I still can't see how I managed to go over 100GB, I thought about everything i downloaded and can't find more than 50gb (taking into account everything downloaded off the internet)

The funny thing is they said in the email;

Dear Customer,
We emailed you recently to remind you about our Fair Usage Policy. Our records show that your broadband usage in June is now above 100GB.
In accordance with our Fair Usage Policy, and to protect the online experience for all our customers, we'll now be restricting your broadband speed at peak times only (typically this is between 5pm and 12am, but these times may change depending on the demands on the network) to 1Mbps for a minimum of 30 days. We'll continue to restrict your speed and notify you by email as long as your monthly usage remains above 100GB.

I got no such email
