Is there a program that does this. Preferably just for my TV and not monitor so i can work late but when watching TV i am not woken up by the brightness so much?

Surely it will have to be part of the TV firmwire since you want to change the brightness physically and not via software? Since it doesn't actually change the TV brightness.

It's a hardware thing, usually called Dynamic Brightness or similar. It uses a built in light sensor to adjust brightness at a hardware level, much the same as modern smart phones.

It's not something you could just do with software without the actual device supporting it via USB or similar.

You're lucky I still remember this little software that a few OcUK members tried a few years ago, f.lux (I can't even find the thread on the forums anymore): http://stereopsis.com/flux/

It works, but personally I found it made everything go yellow at night.

There's also PangoBright, but it's not automatic, it just sits in the system tray and you select a brightness level manually.

I think it's going to be hard to achieve varying degrees of brightness through software without completely messing up your TV's picture quality - when you're making adjustments you normally start by getting your black levels right and work from there. You really want something that adjusts the backlight directly, which means having the functionality built into the TV itself as mentioned above.
