program to make adsl faster?

Hi all,

at college someone was suggesting that there is a program out there that will make adsl download faster.

personally, I cant understand how it can as the line has to sync at a particular speed and thats what you are limited to download wise...I know you can tweak the MTU etc, but actually getting more kb/s at downloading?? possible?

ive heard about the tcp/ip tweaks, like registry settings that can be changed to make pages load faster etc.

ive just downloaded the gmt tool program and it works with my router, how do I go about lowering the SNR?
