Program to record screen

I'm wondering which programs will allow me to record whats going on the screen, into a video file (format doesn't matter) or similar.

Is there anything in Microsoft's line up that'll do it? I've seen "replays" of Livemeetings etc before.

fraps is very good, it's not free though

it's made to record game footage, but i'm pretty sure you can record anything on screen

Yes fraps will record anything on your screen

Be aware though, it outputs huge files I have a 1 minute video that is 1.25GB

Although you can alter the settings so it isnt as bad.

fraps only records games i think. and there is a free version limited to 30 seconds.

to record your windows desktop you can use windows media encoder

also i've heard camstudio mentioned before although i haven't used it myself....

Camstudio will record both video and audio for you and put it into AVI (Xvid) for you or other media file type.

another vote for Camstudio, although i use *** portable version instead of the full version.

CamStudio is very good. I used it for a Uni project earlier this year.

I've used HyperCam before, It's very simple and I was able to encode in DivX although if it's an unregistered version you will get a watermark in the top corner but I'm sure if you wanted a registered version, you would know where to get it
