Sorry - Yet another question!

I've set up XP Pro on a 20gb C: partition and intend to put all my programme files and data on another Partition.

The idea is that I can do a fresh install of XP if it slows down or if I get problems with it without having to reinstall everything else.

If I reinstall XP on the C: drive will all my programmes on the other partition still work or will they all need reinstalling?

Unfortunately most will need re-installing, even though they install to a different partition, they still drop entries in your registry, which is lost when you format and re-install.

You can get round it with a registry hack, but it's more complicated than it's worth.

Your best bet is to install windows, put all the programs on your always gonna need, MS Office, Firefox etc then image it and keep the image.

Other programs like games and things you download it is good to get rid and start again once in a while simply cos you get rid of the pap you dont actually use and are also forced to download the latest version of software meaning your system is nice and up to date :)

Sounds good to me. Would the image back everything up on the c: partition and is there a programme you would recommend (preferably a free one!!)?
