Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone here knows somewhere that will program a Ford key without needing two others? It's for a W reg mondeo mk2, you usually need two keys to program the immobiliser (PATs) chip (they did away with the red master key around the 98 mark).

I already have the spare key, itll unlock and lock the car etc (can do that with only one key), is cut ready and everything just needs to be programmed to turn the immobiliser off. Took it to Ford, they wanted £100 to program a key! Completely scandalous. Anyone know where it is possible to get the same thing done at a more sensible price? There must be a way of copying the PATs chip in my current key or some such, or overriding the need for 2 keys to program, but it's a case of finding somewhere that can.

Cheers,

Tom.

My central locking screwed up on my old Focus the fob got out of sync with the car so it wouldn't unlock it. Ford wanted about £50 to fix it. I searched around on the web and found some instructions that involved putting the key in the ignition and turning it to the different positions in a certain order to re-program it. Wonder if you can do something similar to re-program the immobiliser component?

that is right but you need two keys to put it in PATs programming mode.....you can program the remote central locking as you described without any key that is programmed to unlock the car, but the key must be PATs programmed to start the car. The remote central locking programming mode is completely unrelated to the immobiliser chip programming mode.....central locking requires one key to be turned to ignition then back off and key removed, then just press any button on the fob to program it....to program the pats you need to do the same but do it with one key, then another to go into immobiliser mode.

IIRC for mine, the 'proper' way at the Ford dealers was £100 or something, but there was some other way which was much cheaper, had that done and its been fine

Can you remember the name of this other way at all? I have a feeling that no one is going to do it for cheaper unless i specifically mention the way :x Cheers tho
