I have a 7900GS which is soon to be replaced with a 8800GT KO, i thought id try overclocking the 7900GS before it goes. What are my choises for programs to do this?

Why overclock it when as you stated you are soon going to buy a 8800GT to replace it... Seems a waste of time, just buy your new card ..:D

Heh, i dont mind blowing the 7900GS up, but as to blowing the 8800GT up... hopefully i learn how NOT to do that with the 7900gs. :)

start with 3D settings. up in 10mhz increments. Test with 3D mark 06. If u see jaggies its ram clocked too high, if its screen corruption, the core is too high.

I usually bung on 10% over what they are defaulted at and start from there. Not had a problem in 7 years by adding 10% to an overclock. You can then stress test it via 3d mark and try some games. If you get screen corruption or BSODs, reboot and lower the rate a tad.

Hmm I used the ATi tool its nice as it shows you rendering image and any broken pixels but I didn't see a performance increase when using that, in fact my 3D Mark score went down when I increased it via the ATi Tool. I just let my mobo do the work and overclocked minorly by 10% (Gigabyte P35 DQ6).

You couldnt have been using it correctly then, ATI Tool gives my GTX the OC in sig and it makes a significant improvment in 3Dmark and games

I used the ATi tool back on my 9800XT and I managed to get some high speeds out of it but when put under 3D Mark scored quite low... however upping a little bit, i.e. 20MhZ or so it made some improvement :| I just left it at stock :)

Got an X1900XT at the moment and letting Gigabyte's RGB do the job for me... got some improvements :)

Depending on the version, 3Dmark can be influanced as much by CPU OCing than GPU OCing.
