i need a program so that i am able to "remote control" my computer from my latop and other computers on my network due to moving my computer downstairs. what programs are out there?

cant seem to get symantec pc anywhere to work and personally dont like it when i had it working a while back!

remote desktop works fine but when i end the session, the computer that i was controlling restarts :s

ill have a go at vnc!

the logmein only has 30 days free trial, bit of a bummer really cos it seems really easy! do i have to be on the internet to use it or can i use it offline like a standalone app?

No there is an entirely free version,

Go to Logmein.com, up in the very top right is a login box, next to it it says "create an account" click that then on the next page click "sign up" just to right of the "LogMeIn Free" menu option.

no it is internet based, but it means you can log in to your home pc from work or school or college or whereever.

As an extra security precaution I disable the LogMeIn app on the remote machine when not intending to control it :)

Use Remote Desktop (mstsc.exe), it comes with Windows. If your have XP Home its on the CD or copy the file from somebody who has XP Pro (it's legal.)

If using remote desktop connect to the console rather than as standard this way you can access any open windows eg internet monitoriting software etc.

Another vote for logmein, after day trial it turns into the free version.

I can use it at school which is great because they have disabled rdc's

For the security conscience person logmein would be a better choice then VNC, since with VNC if you are using a router or similar you will have to set up port forwarding for it to work but with logmein you don't since the server (the pc you are connecting to) keeps a constant connection with logmein’s servers and the client connects through that.

Hope that wasn’t too nerdy for you :p

just tried logmein - very easy to use, but not sure if I'd want to pay for the pro version. If it's just control you're after then this should do it in the free version
