Hi there, I'm looking for a path to upgrade my computer and would appreciate some help. I can't afford to do it all at once so its going to have to be a step at a time, budget depending.

The system currently comprises the following components

Gigabyte 890GPA-UDH3
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
Radeon HD5830
2 x 4gb corsair xms3 ddr 1600
Normal hard drive for operating system and generic case
High spec Dell monitor 27inch
Bunch of other drives for storage
Windows 7

I predominantly use the computer for photography , after that Its for music and internet stuff. Music goes out via digital to a separate DAC/amp and speakers. Not a huge gamer, never say never though.

I'm sure the motherboard is dodgy, the usb plays up and doesn't always see it as usb2 let alone usb3, I don't like it.

So can I upgrade that but still run the old processor, are any backwards compatible? After that I was thinking about sticking the OS and other programmes on a SSD and keeping the other drives as storage.

Cheers

Thanks, I was thinking of something a bit more beefier, this one doesn't have the digital out, hdmi would be nice.

Out of curiosity, is it worth staying with AMD or making the jump across to intel?
