So, a lot of you will remember my 205

Plan is to convert to a GTI-6 Engine with Xsara VTS 5 speed box, Tran-X LSD, add Power Steering and Electric Windows and a few other nice bits to bring it up to modern creature comfort standards. Work is being done professionally, all mods declared to insurance company.

Engine stripped down for 3 Angle Valve seats and checkover/cleanup. Head had been off before and 2 bolts were almost welded in!

Engine Block rust treatment post dipping.

Bores look sound!

And block after rust treatment, almost ready for painting.

PAS rack has been purchased along with a 306 High Pressure pipe and soon a 306 Resoirvoir which will sit on the offside under the engine bay, matching the washer bottle.

Strut Braces from OMP will be fitted.

 Wouldn't suite the 205!!

My current 306 HDi is intercooled and mapped ;) The 205.. might be too light to handle the torque I suppose.

I used to have a Peugeot 205 GRDT (1769cc turbo diesel) that was a bag of understeer :p ..but the cast iron engine weighed a LOT.

I want, but cannot have (stupid XS :().

I suppose I'll be the one to ask - ITBs or Twin Webers? I mean, you weren't planning on NOT running a awesome sounding induction method, were you? ;).

Interesting, also make sure you get the suspension and brakes sorted too, make them leading edge and I suspect you'll have a truly epic little car. Oh, and some of them throttle body things too that make it sound nice. Keep is looking bog standard too, Pug got it right day 1 so needs nothing more!

Nah, very light weight (it is pretty much there already) and a nicely tuned and free revving/breathing engine is where it needs to be. Nice pure noise, super throttle adjustment and lightweight. That Chapman bloke, he knew is onions that bloke!

Yeah, ITB's will be the later upgrade, they sound AMAZING.

Brakes are going to be 1.9, along with the hubs of course, and Mintex 1144 pads. They are more than adequate. Braided lines yada yada.

Xsara VTS steering rack 2.4 turns lock to lock. Group N engine mounts, Silicon Hoses, group N rear beam mounts, possibly Xsara VTS dampers.

Should be a fun little car!

I saw a mint 205 GTi 1.9 in Lichfield a few weeks back parked in Tesco's and if I hadn't been with my wife I might have walked over and made a silly offer to buy it. Want to collect all the old hot hatch's I loved as a yoof and 205 GTi 1.9 is top of the list and this was one factory new!

Yeah, to be honest the standard mi-16 in a 205 is perfect... Wouldn't have wanted a great deal of extra power in mine.

What size are the 1.9 Brakes?

The Gti-6 uses 283mm Disks IIRC with a rather large single piston caliper. I stuck some on my 306 when I upped the power. Quite a lot of 205 modders upgrade to them..

Will they fit under the 309 alloys though?

Might have to swap to 306 "cyclone" style wheels or aftermarket.

Its a nice car and good engine, the lack of torque began to annoy me in my GTI-6, but in a 205 its not going to be a problem since it must be 300-400kg lighter!

Nice project, are you keeping the 6 speed box also? A mate of mine has gone for the GTI6 engine in the 205, but he went for the 5 speed box as it's smaller... He's also got some funky megasquirt fuelling system and throttle bodies also, it really does shift!

Also, keep an eye out for 264mm brakes from the 306 XSI, much lighter than the 283mm ones...

I find the same, I have the 205 XRDT, and even tho I've filled the boot full of sub, you can get some crazy understeer if you want. I have an intercooler waiting to be bolted on, I just need the hoses...

Try a little lift off oversteer, much more fun, scary if it happens when you don't expect it tho! ;)

Would tinkering with the rear beam ride height affect the amount of understeer?

The gearbox being used is clearly indicated in the OP ;)

I believe the front discs will be 266mm which are more than adequate. 1.6 brakes will work fine as well. Larger brakes add a good 1.5kgs a side in unsprung weight. Bear in mind that the car itself is only undergoing about an 11kg increase in weight, and it is the weight that has most bearing on the brakes not the engine power. If you can lock the wheel with 1.6 brakes, why do you need larger :D

You can get GTi-6 Brakes under the 1.9 wheels I believe.

I am waiting to see how the new Predator GTi-6 Ecu pans out before I change to ITB's as it will be a direct swap with the GTi-6 ECU, same Engine loom and allow upgrading later on. Its very popular with the Saxo boys.

Bah, I'm not really with it today, 5speed box should allow you to use full lock so that's one less thing to worry about.

I'm pretty sure the standard 205gti brakes uses 243mm disks, so if you have 266mm disks then they've already been upgraded. They'll be fine, my mate has the 266mm disks and he's taken it round Castle Combe and has had no fading problems... I'm not sure what pads he's using however. You can put the wheel weights inside the wheel too. :)
