Okay okay.. So I have no idea where this would actually go... but.. it is a project... and I'm going to try to log it. May take some time however...

So basically I've had the idea to build my own 3D printer.. no specific reason other than it seems like a fun challenging project. And I've got some interesting idea's on what I can do with it. :D

So I'm pretty much going to be building a Prusa i3.. seems a good solid printer to start with...

What I'm going to be buying (multiple sources but mainly off of a famous auction site):

1 x Nema 17 75oz-in stepper motor. (Extruder motor)

4 x Nema 17 40oz-in stepper motor. (XYZ motors)

5 x Pololu Stepstick motor drive boards

1 x RAMP 1.4

1 x Arduino Mega2560 R3 microcontroller

1 x PCB heatbed, thermistor and glass (for heatbed)

3 x endstops

1 x hotend

1 x 2M timing belt

2 x GT2 pulleys

various other parts that I'm yet to find on the web. (slowly getting through the list)

I'm going to be going through this probably in steps of what I can buy at a time. End result I should hopefully have a nice Prusa i3. Which I should be able to play around with some programming I have a fun idea. :)

How big items will this be able to make? Always wanted one myself :)

From my understanding items up to approximately 200mm x 200mm x 200mm. :)

It seems quite easy to do. Basic electronics, bit of simple soldering. Shall be a nice challenge and I have an idea... To make things really fun :p It's based off the Prusa i3 which can be found on the reprap wiki. Going to take a while to do since I can't necessarily splreg 300 quid odd in one go. Makes sense to make it one part at a time in a logical order :)
