Welcome to my Case and Room Project.

I thought that I would like to put together I thread with all my work in it over the last few months, since building my first PC last november. Some of you may have seen my previous thread but things have changed and I would like to present to you the new thread.
I present the three main areas:

Keyboard Mod

To do the El Wire Keyboard Mod you need the following

**In case it looks confusing This comprises of pics from 2 separate mods, one using 1 kit where the power goes out the left and mine using 2 kits where the power leads come out the right.

Please note I will not take any responsibilty for anything you do to your keyboard following this mod**

  • A Keyboard (Here a logitech)
  • 1 or 2 kits of EL Wire
    ELWire.jpg
  • A Screwdriver
  • A Cutting Tool
  • A Sanding tool
  • Glue Gun or Super Glue

To start with I removed the front cover from the logitech and removed all the keys. Use a flat ruler, your finger or a screwdriver to pop them off.
It is then easier if you collect them in groups, say Numberpad on the right, Number Row in this container etc. Makes it much easier to put them back on instead of hunting for each key.

Remeber if you dont have another Keyboard to refer to:
Now is the time to take a photo ;) You dont want to have to guess where each one goes :p

Then get your EL wire and plan out an unstuck route giveing slack on the corners so you know you will have enough room to get round when its stuck on.

Perhaps use a key to hold each corner down.

Then if you dont like the route you can change it or add another kit.
Try to spread it out to cover as much of the keyboard as possible.

Glue gun may come off easier
Then when you are happy procede to glue it down with whaver you have chosen,

KeyboardMod2.jpg

i used super glue tho :p

Heres one i prepared earlier:
KeyboardMod3.jpg

But we are not there yet, on the logitech I then needed to cut the front panel to allow the EL Wire to go along from one section of the keyboard to another. I did this with a file.

[PIC to come]

I then needed to cut the exit for the Power lead
Keyboard%20Mod%20Wiring.jpg

I did this with a craft knife and then a file.

The Next step may not apply to all but it did to me.
Before Putting all the keys on: see if they will depress fully enough to register. If not, as in my Case:

Pick up your sanding tool and cut all those keys down until they do :--( tiring work.

Get one of these

My Room

In November (now my current room) the spare bedroom looked like this

Old%20Room.jpg

Lol Im afraid thats the only pic I have of the room, as one doesnt tend to take pics for no reason. And there was a reason and a half for taking a pic of that mess ;) Dont build your computer in your room, use somebody elses :p

Anyway until 4 weeks ago it looked like a neater version of that with computer clutter removed.

Green Carpet as seen in

That fugly wallpaper ^ and a huge bed that filled the room.

no they are fine, never had a problem with them

Sorry I meant the keyboard lights.

Im looking for some Blue LEDS same size/ voltage
How would i find what voltage the current ones are though?

hehe, the desk is "home made" in a broad term it got a cable trap built on at the end that takes a lot of the wires, theres a vertical cable trap going on later.
I will braid / split loom the rest.
I only moved it all in the room today :)

The mirror is a real mirror, cut to size (i actually snapped the corner but nobody can see that, nothing a dab of glue cant fix)

:p :p

(or it will do once you've tidied those cables :p :D )

Not keen on the PSU though.

Cables - still waiting for the cable trap.

Im a bit annoyed with the PSU photo, the reflection is normally much better as the foil is held tighter. Still looks a bit :o
Cant really think of a better place to put the Tt Fan switch though. Want to be able to get to it every night without rumaging too far in the case.

Tape used as its temporary.

Ideas?
