Project: Black Light 300 (This is my first ever modding project of this kind, so be kind!)

Yes my project naming skills aren't the best! But here's a brief on what i am hoping to accomplish,

After pondering for about a month on what new hardware i was going to order and which case to get, i decided on the following.

Antec Three Hundred Cool and Quiet Gaming Case
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz (Retail 775)
Asus P5Q-E iP45 Socket 775 Motherboard
Asus Silent Knight II Cooler
Corsair 2GB PC2-8500 C5 XMS2 Dominator (2x1GB)
BFG 8800 GT OC2 512MB
2x 320Gb Samsung HD322HJ F1 SATA
3x Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin
Nexus Vented PCI Plates (3 Pack) x2​

Yes it's not a top of the range pricey rig, but still a decent upgrade from what im currently running.

I decided to go with the Antec 300 due to its sturdy build, nice exterior and at the price its going for, i think it was well worth it. But in my eyes it has a few minor downsides, no windowed side panel (we all like to see fans spinning!) and being able to see aluminum through the front of the case.


The Plan

  • Spray the Chassis black to match the exterior.

  • Make my own windowed side panel, it will be about the same width and height of the motherboard, so you wont be able to see the PSU (bottom mounted) and the drive bays.

  • Add a white cathode along the bottom of the window, possibly two depending on how much light i think is approapriate.

  • Rubber Line the HDD Cage Rails (1mm rubber strip).

  • Rubber Grommets for screwing both hard drives and fans.

  • Add Nexus Vented PCI Plates to finish the look off (they should hopefully resemble the front of the case).

  • Cable Management (going to try and hide as much as possible, may even run some through the backplate).

All parts and almost all materials are ordered, i will hopefully begin this project this weekend (if everything arrives on before then) and i will try and take as much pictures through-out the different stages as i can!

good luck mate, and look forward to the finished product. im very interested in doing window for my antec 300 but dont think i have the right tools. if you could put some detail as to what you do i would be most grateful. (I like the idea of it only showing the motherboard arear and not the drive bays).
 
Good luck. Sounds nice and simple at first but just make sure you don't screw up the spray job like I did!

Got pics?!

I got all the materials i need today, highest grit sand papaer i could find, i have a mini mouse sander aswell which ill so the larger areas with, and ive got my primer, paint and laquer

I forgot that I never updated it with the 'almost' finished pictures. Only thing I have left to do now is the acrylic front panel. I'll get around to that some day :D
 
Update:

Sitting here in work enduring the usual doom and gloom, and along comes our store man with his trolley and i see a large brown box with a nice big black antec box resting on top!

He strolled into my office and said "Santa has come early!"

Not everyone finishes work that early!

Wont have pics up until about 6:30/7ish :p

(and its only going to be pics of all the hardware/materials i ordered nothing on the case yet!)

I'm hoping to get started on sanding down the chassis tonight, and measuring up my window and marking it out.

But i will be posting as many pictures as humanly possible!

I will be hopefully collecting the dremel and jigsaw tonight for getting the panel done, but due to work and other things i may start the case work at the weekend!

Update:

Going to begin the stripping and standing of the chassis tonight, i lined the side panel last night with tape ready to measure out what size i want the window.

I will take pics along the way for you "hardware/mod porn enthusiasts" !
