Project - Charity Build- Narcolepsy UK

Congrats to winners was a very worthy cause and great to see the target was beaten :)

:D Cheers mate!

Right then last update I suppose:(

Behind the scenes for the last few weeks we've been in contact with some of our sponsors. Connor has been given the chance of moving in a different direction , While he takes a much needed break from the Builds.

Its more of a trial to be fair, He'll be reviewing some tech, if it grabs attention and is liked, We'll keep at it. If it fizzles out and doesn't hit the mark then thats ok too. Connor is smart kid, he said I'm not expecting to go big over night but if people read then thats great.

Our domain is up and things are a little basic just now. As time progress and our experience improves, so will the site.

Sadly Connor had a rather unpleasant accident at school recently and required surgery on his hand. He's doing just fine but recovery time might be slow.

He's more frustrated then anything else as Videos of him unboxing the products are his main interest, We had done a trial run and recorded an unboxing with our first item, He had planned to re-record and improve it. I think its brilliant though especially for his first time on camera

Please feel free to check it out if you wish

Also some of you might have seen my ugly mug on a Video I uploaded to our Facebook page, Their will be more to come. It's a bit lenghty (30mins or so) but a few special mentions can seen at around the 12 minute mark

Finally to answer the question that has come up a lot recently...
Will Connor build more at some point?

Yes he will!

Thanks for everything OCUK and the community!

Many thanks, this will help me towards a build a little quicker than I'd planned. I hope Connor gets well soon.

Epic motherboard cover, let me stress this "IS NOT" about covering up the board , is simply something Connor wanted to do, no matter what board we put in their, the plan was always to stealth it

Will look even better with the GPU, Cooler etc :p

Where did you get that made/how did you go about designing it?

Also how much did it cost?

looks sexy :p

If you want it done in acrylic, give me a shout. I can cut upto 600x400mm (currently) on the laser. Will need a drawing ofc! Give me a shout for a quote!

Can you give us an approximate cost for ATX board? So we have some idea what it would cost. Like £20, £50, £100.
Thanks

Truthfully? For a cover 305x244mm, and a cut time of 15 minutes (This is the key, it depends how long it will take to cut it all out!) My estimator says £13.03 (not inc delivery!) BUT, it depends on the time taken. If you want it engraved that also takes longer. I do stock quite a few coloured plastics including transparent and flouroescent (flouro costs more). I should also charge for drawing up the layouts as well of course (though I am sure we can come to an arrangement for being forum members!) This can easily be done yourself using sketchup, draftsite or others. Just give me a shout by email.

You would need to supply a drawing, since I do not have any boards here to test on. And you would need to make sure it is 100% correct! I might be able to laser one in cardboard for extra cost so you can check the fit, then go for the full size one.

Thanks!
Does £13.03 for 15 minutes cut time include the material?
Approximately how many cm of cut is 15 minutes? I'm assuming that's how the cut time is estimated.. and assuming transit time between openings cut is not significant.
Assume full scale drawing of what is to be cut out is best?
Now much extra for cardboard to test fit?

I'm asking on open forum as others are probably interested too. I'm not planning a new build for some time but your estimated price makes it a very tempting addition in a custom build... And not just motherboard covers but also backs for GPU boards, etched windows, logos, etc.

What I do is stick the dxf drawing (you always draw at full scale, no exceptions on a computer) Then the software tells me how long it will take. The minimum I charge for is 15 minutes, sometimes you can get 2 or 3 in the time, and yes, that includes 3mm opaque or transparent plastic. I could also use mdf and plywood (of which I also keep in stock) mdf is far cheaper, but goes black on the edges when cut.

Cardboard I just use whatever is lying about, box ends etc. Just a couple of quid really, that way you can check the fit!

Engraving does cost more, and that does depend on the quality required. Simple text is easy enough done.

Give me a shout in trust, as I do have some stuff I do on Facebook. And I do not want to post it here (as I am guessing this might still incur wrath of mods!)
