Noticed that there arn't many propper modding threads round here anymore so thought I would have a mess around this afternoon!

Ok, here's the story, I'm selling my Lian-Li V1100 so now I need to stick a few bits in for a linux system, nothing special - P4 3.2Ghz etc.

I found this thing in the loft, horrible premodded case complete with flashing LEDs, I thought I'll rip the front of that and it'll look ok - metal front n all.

However all the blanks had gone from the front and the power button and LEDs were stuck to the front panel, I ripped them out and connected some different switches straight to the front panel.

The way the switches work is you flick the left one up and the right one down to power up and vice-versa to reset, this is because I thought it would be to easy to accidently knock one and turn the system off. Still havn't tested it so it might not work!

I filled a couple of drive bays with an old hard drive I was throwing out (Capacity: 426Mb :p ), glued with araldite.

Then I got an old 32x CD drive (don't really use CD drives much so no need for anything better) and ripped off the front.

Pulled out the old usb ports and screwed it in the front

Put an old P1 heatsink at the bottom (looks pretty!)

Just waiting for the araldite to set now before sticking my stuff in.

You will probably hate it but I like the industrial/end of the world/leet haxor look.

Time: 1.5Hrs Appros
Cost: £0

:)

Future Plans:
Since I don't need the CD drive once I've installed Ubuntu I may try and find a 5.25" floppy drive for the bay instead :D

Also I may try and find a nice bit of (rusty) steel to pop rivit in the gap between the CD drive and the hard drive.

May also stick an LED fan in the front fan bit, either inside or outside the front fan bit.

Pics:

its like in the 60s/70s when they tried to predict what it would be like in the year 2000 and everything looked like your case!
of course they thought that we would have cars that could fly and that too but i guess they were wrong.
true to the thread though, it is ghetto and i look forward to seeing what happens next!

There we are, up and running, it's on its side because the glue hasn't dried yet in a couple of places.

Future plans:
try and find a 5.25" floppy to replace the CD drive with
mod some LCD temperature displays I found into it somewhere
fill the gap between the CD drive and hard drive with something.
