Hi guys and girls, in the next few weeks I will be building my first ever PC build and decided to document it here!

I will also use this time to introduce myself to the forums, Dxws or Dxwson has been my online name for some time and I've always been a games and a PC/technology enthusiast. It had finally become the time to test my self and take the plunge into custom PC building. I have an engineering back ground so hopefully I won't have too many problems!

Anyway an introduction to my build. I came up with the name envy as the main accent colour of my build is green, and the only "cool" thing I could come up with is green with envy.

Quick parts list round up

MB is a gigabyte g1 sniper z87, went for this board mostly on its looks but also the fact I won't be using a sound card and the built in sound on this is supposed to be okay.
i5 4670k
be quiet advanced c1 cooler, like the black stealth look and it's quiet!
Team Vulcan 8gb 2133Mhz
SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply
Fractal Design Define R4 case
Palit jetstream gtx 770. Heard mixed reviews about Palit products but at the price of £210 I couldn't resist giving it a try.
2TB seagate barracuda.

Spent quite a while looking for parts for the build but i'm no expert so hope I've made good choices!

So i'm still waiting for my case to arrive and decided to have a go at placing the CPU and RAM in to the motherboard ready for when it can all be fitted, will do a pre build out of the case before hand to make sure everything is working.

As a newbie I've decided to document how i find things/ things that I feel could be better. Probably boring to most people, who want to see photos!
At this point I don't have much to say, inserting the RAM and CPU are easy enough. I did feel like I was going to Snap the locking device for the CPU as i pushed it down, and the RAM gives a satisfying click when it locks in place!

Build photos and actual build log to follow.

Not boring at all if you want to write down how you found the process, someone might learn something from it. As they say though, a picture tells a thousand words, it can just help with an explanation.

Enjoy your build

For me it is still scary to remove cpu from old motherboard and putting it into new.
I bent some cpu socket pins in motherboard by accident few years ago and it cost me some money.

Good luck with your build :-)

Finished the build pretty much the day I got all my stuff! runs Bf4 at around 85 fps which I'm happy with. Also runs at around 26-28 degrees which is also better than I was expecting on idle. will get some photos up and go in depth when I get chance!

By the way.
This is a LOG.
Where are the PICS.

PICS OR DIDN'T HAPPEN :D:D:D

Just ordered some more bits! Sadly my DSLR died recently and don't want to upload crappy phone pics!

speaking of crappy phone pics here's one of the cooler, brushed alu sexiness.

Things to come:
ACTUAL build log (with photos)
Braided cables
Alu PSU cover
crappy blue graphics card LED swap
power switch LED swap
case fans

Glad you got it up and running first go - would like to see the pics though!

I'll get some soon I promise! The only problem I had was the graphics card wouldn't boot. Had to run on the integrated graphics and reset BIOS. Other than that everything went hunky-dory!

So first Real update after I got a package from overclockers. Green braided cables, a new fan and a test LED.
I apologise in advance for the poor lighting and general crappy Iphone camera.

Got right into it, as my PSU is not modular these are going to be added as an extension, and hopefully i can get the side panel on!

Cables in:

Not happy how they are slightly twisted, will sort out when final cable management is done.
Next was the fan swap, the fan's in the define R4 are good and quiet, but did not match my build.

Fans i chose were be quiet pure wings 2, to match the cooler!

<old vs new>

Slightly higher temp on this but over all happy with them!

Still to come, probably tomorrow is swapping the power LED in the front panel to a green one. hopefully will make a tutorial if anyone is interested.
