Project: Fallen Angel

So it's time for a new project. I wanted to do something a little darker than my previous build - Project: Angel so I decided to go for a red/black theme which ties in nicely with the Angelic alterego, hence the Fallen Angel title.

I'm still in the process of collecting parts for the build but I have the case which still requires a little work but to give you an idea, here are some sneek shots of it:

First one to guess what case it is gets an e-beer!

More to come soon.....

Nice collection of parts, see that you went for the super mega, you wont be dissapointed. And 470 sli, great cards at very good prices.:)

I was made an offer I couldn't really refuse for the 470's ;). Sorely tempted to get a third but it would be for e-peen value only realy as two will handle everything I need em for. NVidia say that my psu can handle a third too which I wasn't expecting.

Excellent. Don't mind a bit of noise while gaming as I have my headphones on so can't hear them anyway. Been a while since I used aircooled cards for any length of time so my memory of 5800 ultras are still fresh in my mind (as is the scarring in my ears!).

I'll stick to my senn 595's for the now. Love em to bits. Them and my 30" dell are the two components I have had the longest - such is the quality :).

Truth be told im loving it, just not sure about the internals. Do I leave plain, anodise/spray black or do I do a carbon fibre job? You are correct tho, pc-p80 armorsuit;)

I plan on having some LEDs behind the motherboard so I dunno if I would be better leaving the alu finish but polish it as this would reflect light better? Carbon fibre does look good in daylight though. Still undecided with the window. Mesh or black Perspex. Hmmmm decisions decisions!

Yeah I'm gonna give air-cooling a whirl but have the insurance in a case that can take water at a later date if needs be. I don't plan on drilling any extra holes as cable management is leagues ahead of the mm case I had so if I can do it in that, this will be a doddle!

Gonna polish the mobo tray first and if it's not right I'll either get it powdered or carbon vinyl. We'll see how it goes:).

Yeah it can be expensive. I know I'll miss the temps and noise reduction I got with water but it is a total pita changing hardware and has prevented me from upgrading in the past because of the cost of changing waterblocks (and the hassle!).

Looking forward to a more problem free build without the hassle of draining/bleeding everytime I want to upgrade parts :).

It's been some time since I built an aircooled build in a 'normal' case so there could well be some headscratching going on but I'll be sure to post up some pics showing progress. I'm just waiting on a few orders before I can really do anything else.

Think I've decided on a part Carbon fibre (vinyl), part black interior. Seen a 700D in the logs section that looks lush and I think it will compliment my build nicely. We shall see.

The plan is to do the motherboard tray in carbon, maybe some other bits. I'm not sure yet what to do with the floor of the case but I've ordered som e vinyl and if it doesn't look right I'll probs just get the frame powercoated. It needs to be matt though as a shiny floor will attract dust.

I certainly hope so! Hopefully get some fans and vinyl to play with this week :). Supplier of braid that I want is out of stock so the psu is gonna have to wait for the moment but theres no rush for that yet.

Small Update:

Package arrived this morning with some modding material.

Carbon Fibre

I ordered the smooth glossy carbon fibre as 3M Di-noc is matt and embossed like the real thing (thanks Peter :)). I'm hoping the glossy finish will reflect light better as where I want to put it it needs to do just that. The downside of course is that light reflection will show up every imperfection as well as dust accumulation which is going to cause me some headaches no doubt.

Not sure what to do with the red yet, I guess it depends how easy it is to mould to the aluminium surface and rolls around the edges.

If all else fails I have a powdercoater to fall back on but I'm trying to do something a little away from the norm aswell as 'doing it myself' rather than pay someone to do the mod work.

Looks like I have some hard work infornt of me so I had better crack on :).

Another small update - more goodies arrived:

First up the fans.

4x140mm and 3x120mm Bitfenix Spectres

Unfortunately the cables arn't pre-braided but that will soon be sorted ;)

Nice red glow from the red LEDs:

Next up are the NZXT leds:

I'm more than happy with the fans considering the price which are surprisingly very quiet, especially the 140mm ones. The only thing I may change is are the 120mm fans for the CPU HSF. While they look great in darkness I feen they may be a bit too understated during the day. Considering switching these out for some sickleflow fans (red blades) but I'll wait and see what they look like when mounted first.

I'm concerned about the overall length of the LED cable so that might need to be lengthened, again I'll try it out and see how it goes. I am however pleased that the LEDs are 3mm as opposed to 5mm which will prove usefull ;).

Gonna start building this weekend time permitting.

2m would be too long for what I have planned, we'll see how it goes I guess. I do like hte pci thing it's just the short molex connector that may cause some problems.
