I've been very slowly easing into the world of modding and finally decided I might as well go for something instead of lurking around forums and reading loads of modding threads :D I loved the look of matt100's PC-7 and thought I'd have a go at painting the insides black. Even if I did mess it up as long as the bits went back in it would still work no matter how hideous it was.

Now I'm not very handy really (obviously as I'm a girl :rolleyes:) so the emphasis really was on simple mods with an eye towards accommodating watercooling in the future.

So I read a few guides, drove up to the massive B&Q near me and bought some primer and black spray paint and off I went.

Took as much as the case apart as I could without drilling the rivets out, gave it a good clean with soapy water and covered the bits I didn't want painting with newspaper/masking tape.

Sprayed it with the primer and left it dry. Didn't go too badly lol.

Sprayed the back of the motherboard tray first as this definitely won't be seen when the case is back together. Got a couple of drips at first but soon got the hang of it and it didn't look too bad when it had dried anyway.

I've got some cable braid and UV lights on order from a competitor, and one of the 5.25 > 3.5 drive bay conversion things, a stealth bezel for my cd drive and some shorter SATA cables coming from another competitor, but obviously being the impatient person I am I decided to put my computer back together today and then just take my psu out for cable braiding later so the (semi) finished product:

Will post more as I add to it, and maybe add watercooling. Not too bad for a girl eh? :D

Looks damn good. Now I'm going to have to go to my local B&Q, buy loads of paint and a rivet gun set...oh and a drill, and take my PC7 and my other case apart and make them black...if it is that easy, just primer and then top coat. The reason for the drill and rivet gun, well kinda obvious, to make sure the whole lot is back.

What primer and paint did you use? Etching primer or car etc?

The brand was plastikote and I just got 'Metal Primer' and the mattest black I could find which was 'Satin Finish Black.'

I looked for etching primer but I couldn't find any but the one I got seemed to work fine.
 
Pics are now fixed. I was using my band's webspace before, didn't know it would go down so quick.

Making the outside shiny sounds like a good idea, but I don't know if I trust myself to work on the outside!
 
I haven't done it myself but from what I've read it just takes a few coats of spray paint with light sanding in between and then you put on a rubbing compound to make it shiny.

lol, I wouldn't really call it a girly mod either, but I couldn't think of another name. Plus I've got a few other ideas knocking around that are a bit more girly so I can just keep it all in this thread. Pink watercooling loop anyone? :D
