Me again lol.

Have installed my xonar D1 and have my sennheiser HD595 headphones on the way. Would i benefit from having the headbox 2 amp for them or will i see no real benefit of it over plugging direct into my D1?

How much to drive the cans? I think the Xonar's aren't too bad for them, though saying that they themselves are about to release a card with a dedicated headphone amp built in. I can't wait. Goodbye Creative me thinks.

You what? argh i just wasted cash on a d1!! :<

No no not really, the D1's no shoddy card for cans.

What do you need to drive the headphones? The impedance I mean.

No idea mate i know nothing about sound so am prolly off on a tangent anyway. Just decided i wanted to up my sound experience and make sure i gettin the most out of it.

someone here with 595s can maybe answer that question?

Still gutted that i idnt wait for new card, only got mine 2 days ago so cld always send back and get the other if its out soon. Didnt buy from here anyway as was 10 quid cheaper elsewhere.

If it helps the new card is likely to be ~£200 :p

D1 will be able to drive the relatively low impedance 595's fine.

That does help matey thankyou, as in all honesty i dont even notice that i put the xonar d1 in. I either have it set up incorrectly on sound settings or my inspires just suck. Hopefully 595s will give me something more :)

I bought a Headbox 2 to use with my Xonar + HD555s, albeit as much for convenience of having a volume knob on my desk, not having to use windows built in volume control and not having to have a large adaptor sticking out of the back of my pc :p

Sounds awesome!

I've not really done before and after tests on my pc, but using my MP3 player the Headbox gives it a nice bit of extra punch.

Whether its worth it for you though, I guess that is more down to opinion :p

What is your max budget for a heaphone amp ?

I would hazard a guess that the D1 + amp will sound better than the new card with inbuilt amp.

Pop over to head-fi.org and post up your budget and needs in the headphone amp section. The helpful boys over there will give you a lot more info than any of us ever could, they really are fanatics.

On that note I need to pop over for advice too :D
