"Forget your water cooling and fancy case mods, I'm bringing some cardboard love to my PC right here."
Gradyhawks, 17/07/14

Not really a project, as it took all of an hour to make but I'm happy with the result. The story goes like so; My motherboard recently decided to give up the ghost (Gigabyte GA Z68XP) after I had recently been told that by a friend that he was going to buy my PC off me, as it is.

Now since the MB died and I was in a position where any money I spent meant that I would get less money in the end, I opted for a basic £30 ASRock H61M-VG3. Now when this arrived I was really surprised as the size of this thing, its s M-Atx board but its the smallest one I've seen and I just thought... "Sod putting this back into my giant full size tower, I'm going to stick it in a cardboard box".

This, then is the result. Its only going to be like this for a month or so as I plan on getting a much smaller case for my friend. After which I get to build something proper for me :D.

Specifications are as follows:

ASRock H61M-VG3
i5 2500k
Sapphire 6870
OZC 600w

Scratch that, not so good.

All is well in the end however, just trying to find the cable for my PSU to power it up.

So there you have it. All done with a kitchen knife and a pair of rather blunt scissors.

Thanks chaps, it was a tough build but someone had to do it.

I do think I'm going to have to get a proper cooler for it however, the stock intel one (now 3 years old) is getting rather loud and sits at 45c idle. It could just be the fresh thermal paste setting in (or more likely my inexperience in putting it on).

This all means that I'm going to have to take it under the knife once more to accommodate a large fan ... i.e. Going to need a bigger hole.

Few points:
- Excellent 'up-cycling', not even recycling but up-cycling by turning the boxes in to another product!
- I'd love to see this cheap build compared against Xbone and PS4 in comparison reviews to show people how they can truly make a better PC system for less price than console!
- You could sticky tape some thin mesh over the holes to act as dust filters :D
