Not so much a project, just my effort at a simple build, my first proper build apart from an ITX home server I built last year.
Firstly, out with the old (purchased 2nd hand around 4yrs ago):
Intel i7 4790k
Gigabyte Z97x gaming 3
16GB 2133Mhz DDR3
EVGA SC2 1080TI
etc etc
As you can see, not the prettiest, but the 4790k is still strong today, however I grew bored, and figured the 5000 CPU's and 3000 cards were a perfect excuse, enter the new build:
Lian Li Lancool 2 mesh
Ryzen 5600x
Artic Liquid Freezer 2
Asus Strix X570-E
2x16GB 3600Mhz DDR4
EVGA SC2 1080TI
Corsair 850i
1TB Samsung NVME
500GB Samsung NVME
4TB HD
Not everything went to plan. The keen-eyed amongst you will notice that's not a 3000 series card, well we all know how that's going. I'm a stickler for things matching, so ideally I want the Strix card, but @ £850+ they come a bit keen. On the subject of things matching, I became someone I hoped I never would, I spent £30 on empty RGB ram sticks. I just couldn't stomach the look of the two sticks. Talking of Ram, it's only 3600 CL18, and single rank sticks at that. However, it was only £130, CL14 dual rank stuff is rather expensive, and a lot of ram is difficult to get hold of atm. I doubt single/dual/CL14 will make much difference as I game @ 3440x1440p, but I might try and tighten the timings down to CL16 anyway, for fun. Very impressed with the 5600x and Artic combo. All core boost to 4.3Ghz sits @ 55c, or OC'd an all core boost to 4.85Ghz sits @ 80c. I could probably lower the temps by playing with the voltages, but again playing 3440x1440p the CPU sits around 20%, so I've just stuck PBO on & left it at that.
So there it is, my half upgrade/half pillage my old system, system.
