Project: Lounge transformation...

Looking good so far but remember when you hang your TV on the chimney it's at seating eye level not standing!
This is a common mistake that people keep making, so when they sit down the TV is far above their heads.

We can't go that low with the TV as there is the fire place which we will be utilising.

We will be having it about as low as we can but to be honest, we had it mounted on the wal at about the same heightl in our previous home and never had a problem with the height. I think the viewing distance helps as we sit about 12feet from the screen.

No more pics at the moment but a bit more work was done over the weekend. Firstly, while the weather was nice on Sunday, we created a guide for the circular saw, this was made by following this video:

We then used the guide to cut in half lengthways three large pieces of wood which will become our six shelves.

We also did a bit more work on the frames for the cupboards so they are now ready for the shelves to be cut and the facings which will be made of pine furniture to be measured and cut.

it is getting there, slowly, but it's hard to do anything when the little boy is about and we've called in probably all the babysitting we can manage for a little while now... :(

Finally had a bit more time to work in the lounge over the last couple of weekends.

Firstly we got the shelves in place in the frames for the cupboards. Though didin't quite have enough mdf to make up the last couple of shelves as I had to use some on a different project...

Next we set about sorting out the shelves in the fireplace which will house my av kit...

To make it slightly more complicated I want the shelves to be able to pull out a bit to allow me to get to the back of the kit should I want to change wiring etc...

My parents had some spare unused kitchen drawer runners so we have used those and now we have pull out shelves in the fireplace.

I didn't get any pics during the making process as we were pushed for time but here are a couple of snaps showing the shelves in place with my kit roughly polaced on it to make sure it all have enough space.

The air gap above the amp is larger than the rest as it does get rather warmer and I figured I'd rather give it room to breath now than have to try to sort something out if I had a problem later on!!!

Oh and forgot to mention, girlfriends dad came round to drill big holes in the sides of the chimney breast for wires etc and one in the front, which turned into a bit of a nightmare as the lintil is much thicker than we thought and he hit a big steel rod...finally managed to get through though so now we have all the hole drilled and ready! :)

How thick is the wall you've mounted tv to? (Remember it needs to be sturdier, and if you have a plasma (heavy!) even sturdier!)
Will it not be hollow owing to chimney...?

Also Nightglow did you empty the radiator first of all? :P

Coming along nicely!

Yes, took it to scrapyard, weighed it purely out of interest, came in at 165lbs empty..

The Craig:
That fire breast wall. is probably around 150-200mm, doubt it's only 100mm brickwork.
