Project management software

This year i need to do some Project management for one of my modules at Uni
I'm from Real time OS background and we've not done anything like this , what tools do you use at work or have you that would be easy to pick up, i need to mange about 6 people with issue tracking and time management charting

Any suggestions?

We use MS Project, and I expect the majority of other PMs use it too.

EDIT: Sorry should elaborate. MS Project for resource management, so your gantt charts and the like.

For issue/risk/quality registers, just plain old Excel
