Hello

I am planning on building a computer case mod based on a theme of Monster Energy which is an energy drink which I absolutley love!

I am starting with A Raidmax Sagitta 2 case:

Here is the hardware I will be using:

  • Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 OC 768MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

  • Asus M4A785T-M Motherboard

  • AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 630 2.80GHz

  • Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 Memory

  • Corsair CX 500W ATX Power Supply

I am going to get some vynil stickers with logos, green fans, LED strips and cathodes as well as cutting the case itself. I will also try to get a custom fan grill done with a monster claw 'M' logo which can be seen on the can of the drink. The non-standard thing about the mod will be that I will also get all 4 different available types of Monster and take the cans and cut them in half and the side on which the logo is seen I will put on the side of the case and probably light them up somehow. Any ideas how to do that?

Comming soon - Sketches and pictures of making

Why not the can idea? Any other suggestions? I tried to contact them about it saying that I can also go to LAN parties and shows and help promote Monster and stuff but never got an answer. I will try again now.

PS I had a look at your Plan D and it looks great!

Update 1

I have cut a can of Monster in half and actually you guys are right - the cans are very flimsy but thanks to Sayso's idea - I will use expanding foam to help the cans maintain their shape. The case is not the easiest case in the world to mod as the whole front is already really attractive and not much can be done here. The Window side is also pretty much out of action other than using vynil stickers like the following:

I will post sketches soon. Any suggestions for my project? What do you think so far?

Hey guys this isin't really an update but I just made a 2D CAD design of the stickers I want to use as I now have access to a vynil cutter :D The only downside is that I will have to wit till they get lime green vynil :/ What would you do? Wait or spend more money? Keep in mind I only have a saturday job in a PC shop/rapair centre and don't get paid much :/

Update 2

Update 2

Hey guys

I started acting (and spending money) on this project. First I phoned up a local laser cutting company and asked how much it would be to cut out a Monster logo on the side of my case but the price was ridiculous. I also wanted a custom Monster fan grill made of aluminium but since I gave up on that idea too I decided I will make the fan grill out of acrylic because I have a laser cutter which can cut acrylic at school.

Next I bought some expanding foam and a can of Monster to experiment with.

Being inexperienced in DIY and modding I didin't cover the can.

Done it's cured

But now it's all covered in expanding foam! :o :o

What can I do to dissolve it? It's all over my hands too. I'm quite embarassed right now ::rolleyes: From what I know there isin't a substance that dissolves it but if you know any ways of getting rid of it other than using my nails please tell me. Tomorow I'm cutting the can in half at school. What would you reccomend to use to stick it to the case?

Next update expected: Tomorow (3rd December 2010)
What's next: Cutting the can in half

Thanks a lot!

EDIT!

I am happy with the case. It has actually proven to be brilliant! The only issue I have is that the HDD drive bay is restricing a bit of space and it's not easy to fit in the graphics card but once it's in it's not a problem. It looks stunning on it's own too.

Update 3

Update 3

Hey, I managed to scrape all of the expanding foam off the can and my hands :D and as I promised I cut the can in half today. I also managed to do the same process with another can. Now I have 2 cans (original and ripper flavours, green and yellow logos) cut in half with foam inside as shown below.

I am going to stick all 4 flavoured cans on the side with a description in vynil underneath. Do you think this is a good idea? Also ordered (in a straight line) or chaotic (at an angle) on the case? What could I use the top for? Maybe add 4 80cm fans going down?

Next update expected: Tuesday (7th December 2010)
What's next: Cutting up 2 more cans, vynil stickers and hopefully some CAD

As you said though it will not be easy. Also getting the proportions right will be hard. And getting it to stick before it gets hard. Paintowkr would be involved also :/ I will put it off till some other time I think.
