Sony has announced Project Morpheus, its virtual reality headset for PlayStation 4. It's a prototype for now, but Sony intends to develop it further for a commercial launch.
Morpheus is a visor style head-mounted display that works with the PlayStation Camera to deliver a virtual reality experience. Inertial sensors are built into the head mount unit and the Camera, which the headset requires to work, tracks head orientation and movement so as the player's head rotates the image of the virtual world rotates in real-time
Component: Processor unit, head-mounted unit
Display Method: LCD
Panel Size: 5 inches
Panel Resolution: 1920×RGB×1080 (960×RGB×1080 per eye)
Field of View: 90 degrees
Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope
Connection interface: HDMI + USB
Function: 3D audio, Social Screen

Holy smokes, this thing looks insane. Possibilities are endless and not just gaming. Apparently they are working with NASA on a VR mission to Mars which would be cool.
Slightly worried the PS4 might be a bit underpowered but heck something like Skyrim (PC medium settings) would be epic and doable.
Anything under £300 sign me up, guess it will be enthusiast driven at first and once it becomes cheaper more mass market appeal.

Not so keen on the design aesthetics, needs to be more PS4esque. Less of the whites and gay tennis band thing. Is a prototype so probably will change.
Have been working on it for 3 years, PS4 designed to work with VR from ground up hence light bar in controller and camera.

Game demos will be available tomorrow (or today given its past 12am in UK)
EVE Valkyrie is playable on the current dev kit, which is exciting. There'll also be a special build of Thief being released; not the entire game, but some key sections reworked for VR support. There's also games called The Deep and The Castle, the latter of which will let you use a PlayStation Move to control a sword.
