First of all, apologies if I've put this in the wrong section, I didn't think it should go in the Project logs because its not exactly a computer project (BUT DONT LOOK AWAY IT INVOLVES MULTIPLE COMPUTERS!!)

right,

so I was getting bored of my current setup, i hate staying in the same place and having my setup in the same orientation. I've decided to make my room more 'studio' like. I wanted to make sure i had a proper monitoring 'triangle' and have my mixer in front of me and my guitar amp along the length of one wall.

The reason i wanted my amp against the wall is so that it is isolated as much as possible, so that I hear what is coming through the monitors and not through the amp (what comes through the monitors is what the microphone hears, instead of what you hear which includes all the reflections of walls etc)

I also wanted more desk space :)

so on with the pictures

Before: the mixer was next to/behind me

white spiriting the table and pulling the table out:

first cable picture...yum :/

moved stuff:

rack in its current state/position

cable mess after pulling out main snakes from the back of the rack

behind the rack atm....

err which cable was it i needed again? :/ (there appears to be a problem... a knot)

mixer in position

back of mixer

 i can see each cable and where it goes

2 screens in place

rack moved over to (near) new place

all 3 screens in place and tv working, ready for Doctor who xD

my ingenious cable routing/screen stand, used an old speaker box to put the screen on, just so happens to have two conveniently placed wholes that I could run cables through :D

:D

inside back of rack

my pc's new home :)

underneath desk (i do have a 1500W Power Amp for the big sub, but it is currently on loan to someone for the weekend :(

old dell dimension 5000 server/test machine

rack moved into final place, can't believe this lot only requires 3 power cables and the two others! (one power is on the other side)

behind the rack now... (its a lot worse than the photo shows)

amp/guitar corner

FINAL PICTURES :D

and that's is :)

took about 5 hours to do and I'm really pleased with it like this, especially the monitoring position (an exact 50inch equilateral triangle between my ears and the speakers for anyone who's interested... :D )

so yeh thanks for reading :D

Lot of equipment there op :)

yeh, rents are worried about the electic bill

overnight with nothing else on in the house, this room draws around 1.5kW (thats with no screens, amps, crossovers etc on) just the computers (2) and the servers (3)

yeh got three servers behind me which i forgot to take a picture of...

update (ish)

got my amp back :D

now i can shake the house with baaaaaasss again :)

and now there appears to be an extreme sub bass, bass trap infront of the rack... hmm

cheers for the replies guys :)

awesome set up :) you going to organise the cables? or just leave them a no one will see ;)

also that keyboard looks so dwarfed by that giant mixer haha!

well I tried to organise them but it just didn't go well, so i think hiding is the best plan :p

yes I know it does a little! :L

Lol I thought my cabling was bad until I saw what yours was like pre-tidying! :P

May I ask, what subwoofer is that? Looks massive!

which one? :p the black one on (our) right is a bose acoustimass which i nicked from my dad :D

the clear one is from the harmon and karden sound sticks II set

black one on the left is an old altec laisang (insert correct spelling here) sub box which was bought back in '98  and gives a very nice sound, I have also added another 8inch speaker to the side of that box :)

in the middle is a 12 inch kenwood car sub which i just bought off ebay for 36 quid :) mega bass from this :p

anything else? xD

oh and yes there are stupid amounts of cables down there :/

forgot to white spirit desk :p

Pictures look good, wish I had a system like that

nah it just didnt get all the paint off :(

yeh, i've built it up over the last 3 years or so, most of the stuff i have got for free, flightcase was from the UK CEO of PRG (google it) for free :p

nearly all the stuff in the flightcase was from school/gifts, screens were free, tv was nicked from rents bedroom :p

etc etc

Sticky finger marks and dust a'hoy!

Sorry :D I'm kind of OCD :p

Are those silly little speakers ontop of the black and yellow monitors(?) needed? Kinda clutters it up a bit. 3M carbon fibre wrap your desks? Thought about trunking for the cables?

Very nice

its inevitable really :/ black shiny surfaces... it's gonna happen!

yeh they add a bit of high end to the sound :) when I'm listening to music for pleasure the black and yellow monitors are too 'flat' perfect for mixing but not for listening to music :p

hmm carbon fiber would be an interesting idea, might have to have a look :) cheers

Tbh trunking would annoy me because I move everything around so often and take speakers to parties etc so would probably be more hassle :/

lol :D nice setup, in need of a more beefier amp but with no money :/ still 80 watts is enough to make the house shake :P ive seen that amp on the bay and it says it 1000watts bridged? how you running it bridged/ohm wise?

cheers

yeh tbh I won't be pushing it really... well until the summer with parties xD currents its not running bridged its running just in stereo.

the sub is only 600W peak so don't really want to run it bridged.

I got the amp for 107 quid including postage (!) so was a great deal. It outputs 1200W bridged into 4Ohms and 1000 into 8Ohms I'm pretty sure

yes i know i need to get some mopads :) the other speakers are only for when i want to listen for pleasure :) i mix with just the rokits :D

*** UPDATE 25/05/2011 - MOPADS ARRIVED AND ARRAY :D ***

I purchased some MoPads of t'bay and they have arrived :D

Also bought some other stooof, such as an HP Ek1502 array :) old but i just wanna play around with it atm :)

I decided that the area around the monitors was STILL too cluttered so i've moved the tables around to give more space :) it also means I can have the monitors of the tables in stead of on the rack and amp :/

So the guitar amp has moved back to its original spot, and the the tables that were in front of one another are now next to each other to give more space :)

Now the table that was under the left (as you look at it) monitor has moved to the front and had its 'wings' put up which gives me a nice oval space to put keyboard/mouse/phone/money on etc :)

so ON WITH THE PICTURES :)

Array - empty currently :( but got some 146gb drives in the post :D

MoPads

the humble pc :)

rack backt its old home :)

Mic setup on the guitar amp, also back in its old place... But i've run the cables round the back of the chest of drawers this time so no messy cables there.... shame about the rest of it :/

Hope you enjoy :)

I'd love to see that electricity bill:p

yeh its bad... but shh its not me ;)

Sacrilege - The Ahes DVD box set are not a monitor stand , they should be on a nice shelf ready to be rolled out in the off season.

I know i know :( but it is the perfect height!

Why have that nice guitar and all that nice rack equipment and run it all through a shoddy Line 6 amp? :D

My current desk is a shelf with the monitor on, and my bass amp/2x10 in vertical position for my keyboard/mouse. One day I'll get around to re-organising this room properly and getting a proper desk... -_-

Yes i know i know  i need a new one :o hopefully I am gonna get one of these blackstars :D

http://www.blackstaramps.co.uk/products/seriesone/seriesone100.html

but i need a new amp, new computer, i want a mac, i need some outboard preamps, more mics, drum mics, more storage space... the list goes on :p need to save a few more monies first :) (and it will probably help if i stop buying crap off ebay  )

EDIT: as you can see i seem to like smileys quite a lot.....

:D :p

Got a small update for you all :D

My HDD's arrived for the Enclosure :D (only cost me £40 for 14 73gb HDD's!) so i now have a 14 disk RAID-5 array which comes to a total storage of about 872gb usable :)

Which is pefect for my backup needs :)

running as a backup with goodsync pro :D

and a short video of the LED's :)
