One of my headlights has been looking a bit worse for wear for a while now, and I REALLY prefer the MK2.5 look over the MK2, so I have started the ball rolling on converting my front to the Facelift model.

For this I need a new bumper, headlights and a pair of foglights.

So far I have a bumper, which I souced from ebay for a measly £21 and a N/S headlight. I cannot find an O/S one anywhere!

Foglights apprently are the same (at least the same mount) as a Xsara Picasso and can be sourced for £30 instead of £140 for the Mazda ones.

Got the bumper off with very little trouble:

Headlights off just as easy:

Mk2 and Mk2.5 lights side by side. The Mk2.5 ones are far superior.

Mk2 and Mk2.5 bumpers side by side, the syling differences are subtle but make a huge difference to the look of the car.

The aim for today was just to test fit the pieces as there is some re wiring needing doing. I had also heard rumours of it not being a direct fit. Funny thing is it fits better than the original!

Don't you love the two tone paint job ;)

All I need to do now is source the bulb to loom connectors from a 2.5 as the new lights have seperate dipped / Full beam and the old ones were intergrated into one bulb. That and anouther headlight and I am good to get it all fitted up and resprayed.

I can't decide wether I should keep the JDM plate or fit a UK one. The UK one makes the car look wider I think, and the JDM makes it look a bit fatter. It's odd.

i trust its off the road while you source it ?

or you gonna drive round with the two tone paint job ? :D

should look good when its finished. :)

It's all back together as it was now. Suprising quick job. About 6 bolts 2 screws and it all comes off!

least you know when you get the light, taking it all off and putting it back together should be really easy :)

It's just the wiring I have to worry about really. It's the only difficult bit.

I am hoping it's as simple as just adding anouther earth, from what I can make out from the markings the voltages and wattages are the same.

I assume the current bulb with 3 pins is just 2 lives and 1 earth, so I just need to work out which is Full and which is dipped and away I go. *Hopefully*

I'm looking to do a similar thing with mine. The bonnet needs replacing anyway, as does the front bumper so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and swap them for the mk2.5 parts.

Trouble is, I'm having problems finding them for anything remotely approaching the prices mentioned in the OP.

There's someone breaking a 2.5 on MX5 Nutz. If they don't have the bits, hit up the wanted section as there's always people breaking 5's on there!

Those headlights make such a difference. The bumper makes it look much happier too :)
