well decided after getting an early xmas pressie from the wife (again) that a new project build was on the cards.

bits gathered

nzxt phantom red/white
i2600k
8gig hyperx 1600 mhz ram
gigabyyte Z68AP-d3

and some tried and tested goodies fro the stockpile

OCZ 850w psu
2tb storage drive
and 750gig boot

Firstly I have no idea where this is heading but i do know its not just going to be another straightforward build. plans are afoot for something interesting with project G4 on the backburner till after xmas and project Beg borrow or steal now complete.

the project will eventually get a proper name but for now its treading water :)
any thoughts suggestions or general abuse feel free to fire away all welcome.

first impressions

ITS BIG!!!!!!

bloody big, dwarfs my antec 300 that its replacing and its massive internally.

no build up shots as well i killed my iphone and have a shameful loan phone from vodafone atm.

IMG_3192.jpg

lots of external connectivity too :) no idea what they all are as there was no manual in the box from NZXT although they did give me a few hundred screws of various sorts so i'm sorted now for the next few years :)

big case means super neat builds are easy (scuze the mess at the bottom had a complete brain fart and messed up my build(forgot to connect the cpu fan header and the thing wouldnt post) so a quick strip down/rebuild ensued.

i <3 cable managment :)

IMG_3193.jpg

also added a 140mm front intake fan that i forgot to take a pic of oops :)

plans on the to do list,

lots of sleeving, 24 pin and 4 pin at the top look horrible.
do something with the front panel connections, their a mess.
add a second large top mount fan (try and get a matching lighty up one
replace the stock intel cooler for something a bit more lairy either antec khuler 920 or custom water cooling loop

so everything works, but its dull as ditchwater. needs braids lights and nudey wimmen

i was thinking that whilst i was in the shower there.

wonder if i can get a 240mm rad down on the side panel where the 2x 120mm fans sit as standard?

intersting............. my idle temps have dropped a good 8 degrees compared to my antec 300. guess that massive fan at the top along with all that free space make a big difference, and thats on a stock intel cooler. ;)

have a few ideas for this now :) :)

and it basically involves epic amounts of airflow and watercooling.

going to try and track down a pair of FN200RB fans to fit in the top 200mm mounts each flowing 166cfm and below those mount a H100 or similar 120mm rad for watercooling the CPU

possibly look at adding a 240 rad mounted to the side panel (theres currently 2x120mm fans mounted there for a gpu cooling loop at a future date although i'm waiting to see what teh 7xxx series brings first :) other than that hopefully the christmas holidays will bring some braiding and other tidy tidy stuff :)

not forgotten about this :)

will be getting stripped down in the next few weeks for some new cooling, long overdue methinks

the old project No Direction has changed a bit in the last 3 years.

still rocking the very same tried and tested 2600k but now on a z77 sabretooth pulling 4.8ghz 24/7

but she is showing signs of age so I decided to add some goodies

we've progressed on from cable ties, these days its all about Velcro ;)

everything given a quick wipedown before Velcro application

the new sabretooth looking rather dusty as its been in a while

another 16gig of ram added

never have enough ram ;)

eeew

getting right into the corners

pair of 280Xs that currently reside in the rig, I do have a matching MSI card that my daughter stole that I've yet to get back (one day)

more eeew

quick scrub later

and the same up top

all In all its progressed a fair bit over the last 3 years. but still more or less the same

dissapointingly without going hex core I cant really justify a new cpu/mobo combo as it quite happily does everything I throw at her at 1080p

hopefully a new psu and a pair of 390x cards and a switch to 4k next though
