So i recently re-built my pc, or shall i say, I ditched SFF and went back to "full sized pc's, albeit a case with a reduced hight.

Surprisingly, the PC is mega-loud imo, and I had thought it would be near silent, because of the components.

Current Spec:
Lian-Li V600
Corsair 520W
CPU cooler is the Nitrogon NT06 lite (passively cooled - no fan as with the "normal nt06")
Zalman cooler on my X1900XT

The case fans are what is making all the racket, and I have been reccomended 2 x Noctua NF-S12 1200RPM 120mm Silent Case Fan - 3 Pin and a fan controller.

Anyone have other ideas and reccomendation you can chuck into the mix. I never been into fans and cooling/noise levels, so think it will be a fun little project, without spending too much cash :)

No watercooling though, looks like too much hassle and overpriced.

thanks

I need something like this these too, my Lian Li PC7 is really loud.
I think it might be my 7600GT fan though..

The Noctua fans seem quite expensive
Anything cheaper?

sorry for the thread jack

7600GT Fan = Hoover

Upgraded to a 8800GTX, and my case has become about 80% quieter

I just needed a graphics card at the time, i don't play any games. I don't know what to do with the fan, i just want to nuke it from its PCB board. :D

Cant you turn the fan down on your 7600gt using rivatuner etc?
I have to with my 1950pro and always used to on my 6800 (before I swapped the fan for a 80mm case fan at 1000rpm)

Have a google, lots of nice how- tos on it mate.

And in regards to the temps if it is crashing etc then its getting too hot is a very basic way of telling, but most cards (not owned a 7600) have a temperature sensor that you can view in the cp.

WOW - What a MASSIVE dissapointment.
Installed both my new Noctua's 1200RPM's last night and it's made no difference what-so-ever.
All these reccomendations and reviews about them, and they don't sound any better than the bog standard ones that came with the case.
Very dissapointed in these.

Guess I'll have to fork out even more now for a fan controller

Any fan running at full pelt is gonna make noise, there's nothing you can do about that. As a lot of people out there will say, even stock fans will run quietly if you reduce the voltage.

I've got a G50, which is pretty similar to V600 and I dont think the Lian-Li fans are that bad. The main problem is having that big 120mm exhast on the side, so if its at top speed and the case is on your desk there's nothing really to deflect the noise of it.

In the coming weeks I'm planning on making my own simple manual fan controller as the cheap automatic one I bought ages ago is rubbish. Should just cost me a couple of quid for a switch, if i can find one suitable (smallish double pole triple throw slide switch if anyone has suggestions). I'm also thinking about getting some rubber mounts to replace the screws holding the fans, to see what a difference that makes.

I'm also interested to here how the NT06 lite is performing for you, I'm interested in getting one but worried the PSU fan won't shift enough air to make the cooling effective.

Sorry for such a long post, kind of got rambling a bit there!

PK!

To be 100% honest with you mate, I don't know what the "standard performance" is.

I'm using bog standard paste that came with the cooler and the corsair PSU as mentioned.
I have no idea what the temps "should" be, but mine are around 40 degree mark pretty much under load or idling, makes a small difference.
When the temperature dropped this weekend, it went down to low 30's :p

Is that acceptable for a C2D 6300 ?

Man, you shoulda called me.

I've spent years silencing my box ;)

P180 + 485w Noisetaker + Seagate HDDs + Panaflo fans on controller + XP90 + X1800XT with an Accelero cooler = inaudible from my bed :D

Might wanna have a chat with you later.
Can you be on MSN tonight?

One word... Nexus :)

Sorry to hijack (not really sorry at all)

But does fitting a (non-stock) fan to your graphics card, invalidate the warranty? Or is it only if the workmanship is shoddy or noticed on RMA?
