Hey all,

Long time no post in here since my last project attempt went a bit "south" (See here and how I never finished it :D) I've been out of action for quite a while (Work has been manic and my personal life has changed massively).

Having said that, now I'm at home more often I've had loads of time to notice how mashing a load of parts together that were meant to be watercooled really wasn't the best of ideas and since it's getting hotter and I'm "Folding@Home" when working it's given me an opportunity to dump a load of cash into my PC :)

Now, unlike past builds I jumped the gun, ordered the parts a week ago and then with Ms TechMinerUK (One of my reasons for upgrading ;) ) smashed through the building process to get where we are now

So we have gone from:
  • Intel Core i7 5820K clocked @ 3.8GHz
  • EVGA X99 Micro 2 MATX Motherboard
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz 32GB (4x8GB DIMMs)
  • NVidia GTX 1080 Foundation Edition (With delightful stock cooler)
  • Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD
  • Samsung 845DC 800GB SSD
  • EVGA SuperNova 1000W P2 PSU
  • Corsair H60 CPU Cooler (With two EK Vardar F1-120 fans)
  • Corsair Air 240
  • NZXT Hue+ with 3 additional LED bands
  • 2x Additional EK Vardar F1-120 fans
  • Custom blue and black cables
To:
  • AMD Ryzen 3700X
  • Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Motherboard
  • Crucial Ballistix 3600MHz 32GB (2x 16GB DIMMs)
  • NVidia GTX 1080 FE (With aftermarket cooler)
  • Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD
  • Samsung 845DC 800GB SSD
  • EVGA SuperNova 1000W P2 PSU
  • Raijintek Morpheus II Core GPU cooler (with two BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 120mm fans)
  • BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 (with one 200mm fan and one 120mm fan)
  • BeQuiet Pure Base 500DX (RGB controlled by Aourus software)
  • 6x BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 120mm PWM fans for the case
  • BitFenix black and white PSU cables
Overall I'm chuffed to bits with how it has turned out and it really is a heck of a lot quieter and far far cooler than before. Temps have gone from around 83c on the GPU under load to 55c. The CPU is slightly hotter but much more stable than the 5820K. I can even let the PC fold and go to sleep which with the last setup and the hairdryer whine from the FE cooler it just wasn't possible without wearing ear plugs

It was also really fun to have a crack at working on the PC again, over the past few years I have mainly only touched computers (Or rather servers) at work as at home I've just had other bits on..... needless to say my hands now stained with TIM and cracked from alcohol have reminded me how fun it can be. So much so that Ms TechMinerUK is also upgrading her PC as well :)
