I was browsing the custom PC benchmarking thread and had to hang my head in shame over my score :mad:
A SB overclocked to 5Ghz will give a score of 2300 - 2500 or around that mark, so Im lagging behind with 400!! Based on my SSD benchies, Im thinking of ditching the hard drive and getting a couple of SSD's - do you think that would be a good use of my cash? :D

So farewell to my trusty Dell Optiplex GX620, scrounged from work and to be fair it has been good to me. It may not be the oldest machine here, but Im guessing that there aren't many older...

So I took advantage of the ocuk xmas sale to get some bits and have been adding since then as and when money allowed until I have assembled this pile of computer pr0n..

Spec so far is

Corsair 650D
i7 3930K C2 stepping
32GB G.Skill 2133Mhz RAM
Asus Rampage IV Extreme :D
Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler
2 x 128Gb M4 SSD
Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1000W PSU
WD Green 2TB HDD
MDPC braid

Plan is to watercool eventually, but for now, this build will be on air until I can save for the bits needed as I need a new monitor as well, so this is part one where I will build and bench then I will add some watercooling just as nature intended...
This build represents a few firsts for me, my first non-AMD build (I have 2 other AMD machines in the house), first attempt at braiding, and first ever high end build - never spent this much on a PC before. As that was the case I went for X79 as when I priced up a new build, X79 wasn't that much more than a decent SB build and I didn't want to spend this much and only end up with 4 cores, plus I can upgrade the cpu to IB-E, so I know the platform has a bit of life in it yet and a clear upgrade path, good job really as my wallet is empty..

I have a feeling you are going to find a bit of a difference from your old spec pc to your new one. Also your benchmark score may raise a little so done be to alarmed lol.

Nope, you are not blind, Im going to be using a 470 'borrowed' from my seti crunching rig as Im going to wait until there is news about kepler before splashing out on new gfx.
It is a bit scary when I think of how much I have spent so far and I still have 700-1K more to go on a new monitor and gfx

Ah, that makes sense :)

Will be interesting what Kepler brings, hoping at the very least it drives 5xx prices down...
