After much tooing and frowing with the boss, she has finally given me permission to start building my own personal rig for gaming (I think she just wants it to play Sims or something). Below is a list of components that I will be buying and once the build is under-way I'll post updates!

If anybody has any suggestions on alternatives then I am always happy to hear them.

Components:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £973.21
(includes shipping: £12.30)

I'm going to be building this between buying bits to set up for our first child (due in August). So it could take a while... But it WILL happen!!

Only suggestion I'd make is changing the SSD to either one of these or a Samsung, as the one you've selected has an awful reputation. Apparently the ones sent out to sites for testing are nothing like the ones you actually buy, as they now use cheaper components inside that are far slower than the speeds stated.

Cheers OJ, I'll keep that in mind :)

heard the Kingston one is slower than meant to be. hyper x is good. had it before my crucial mx100 512gb which is a good option also £140 I got it for

Well ive finally started purchasing components :D

This could take a while as I have a limited monthly budget, and delivery times to the med vary from 2-6 weeks depending on weight (anything over 2.5kg tends to come by ship)

I also plan to water cool this rig (eventually) as ambient temps here in Cyprus generally sit around the 30 degree mark.

But anyways... UPDATE!!!

I have now received...

(despite everyone advising against it) Kingston 120GB SSD

and

HyperX Fury 16 GB DDR4 2400 Mhz Memory Kit (2 x 8 Gb)

I have also just ordered the ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard so now waiting for that to rock up :D

Next month I plan to buy the case and the HDD, im not sure whether to buy just a bulk standard 2TB HDD or a 2TB SSHD. What are your thoughts on this? Is it worth it?

Case wise i have decided to downsize from the Phanteks Primo to the PRO, and im still undecided whether or not to stick with black or buy the white version? Im tempted to do white case with black components, Black and white custom sleeved cables and white coolant in the loop.

Anyways that my update for now, as it develops a bit more ill update again.

A month on from my last update, I have now received my motherboard!! well that's a bit of a lie... due to a mistake by a certain on-line retailer I actually have 2 motherboards :D

Could be a lot worse :D

Last night i also placed an order for a new case...

The Phanteks Enthoo Pro Mid Tower Case in white :D

Only problem is its going to take at least 6 weeks to arrive, should be anough time for me to pull my finger out and get some photos up of the bits of kit that have already arrived!

Also... plenty of time to be ordering other components :D

Looks good although i am sure you can get the windows 10 64bit for much cheaper although it wasnt a OEM copy and just a consumer copy i saw for £16

I probably can get it a bit cheaper if I shop around, the price shown above is what OcUk were charging for it back when I first posted my build log.

well its time for a bit of an update...

This arrived in the post...

ooOOOooo look at all that cable management

Earlier this week I put an order in for my PSU and a 2TB HDD, and at the end of the month i'll hopefully be ordering either the CPU or the OS with some peripherals :D

Finally its all coming together. Can't wait to get this thing built now to make some space in the spare room!!

Today I had another delivery at work :D

I got my 2TB HDD, a pack of Haribo and a complimentary PSU :D (I'll add the photos later).

Yesterday I bought the MSI Geforce GTX 980 OC as its at a reduced price and I couldn't resist. hopefully that will arrive in the next couple of weeks :D

Next up... OS (Windows 10) and CPU!

Also... if any of the MODS feel that this is in the wrong section, please feel free to move it, I wont be offended as I haven't got round to actually assembling anything yet :(
