Projector Bulb replacement recommendations

I've had my JVC DLA-HD1 for around 10 years now with 1600hrs on the bulb and a dimmer looking picture I'm thinking its time to replace the bulb.

Whilst I'm salivating at the new announcements from JVC and Sony on their native 4k projectors they are just too expensive for me right now, so I'm thinking a new bulb will see me until the 4k projector market matures a bit more and prices come down a bit and I'm in a better financial position to take the step.

So does anyone have any recommendations on a good place to obtain a replacement bulb?

Thanks for the replies, I'm still giving this some thought.

What about something like this? Original lamp inside a generic housing that will fit the HD1.

I'm also looking round the second hand market to see if a good upgrade is available for the JVC HD1 for reasonable cost. Any advice on where to look for second hand PJs also welcome.

I've always bought from AVForums Classifieds. You might also be able to find one of the official 'Free Bulb' vouchers that are sometimes given away with new purchases.

Just seen your build thread btw, amazing room :)

Thanks and thanks for the replies too.

The financial impact of the room is still being felt hence the reason I can't splash out on a new projector - I will be in a much better position next year.

As an interesting aside, I now have an Xbox which can play 4k discs so as an experiment I got a UHD disc and did a direct comparison between the 4k disc and the regular blu-ray of the film and the regular blu-ray provided a significantly better picture quality compared to the UHD disc played through my 1080P projector, presumably due to the work the Xbox has to do to downgrade the picture. So getting a UHD disc for the Dolby Atmos soundtrack is not a good idea for me right now, unless a dedicated player produces better results with the picture.

I also may have the chance to purchase the Sony VPL-VW500ES projector that my AV dealer has second hand, so will be seeing how much he wants for it hopefully soon. If I'm wearing my sensible trousers though, I think I'm really best getting a new bulb and waiting for another year as things in the 4k projector market will have moved on again too.
