Hope this is the right section.

I'm trying to source a budget projector for our office. Will need to be ceiling mounted and used for powerpoint presentations.

Pretty much any business projector will tick those boxes. With business projectors starting from under £200 you could go "bish bash bosh, done!" The final result might not be all that good though. So you could do with narrow g down an actual budget figure, then deciding priorities such as screen size; whether or not audio is required; is a VGA connection sufficient or does it need to support DVI/HDMI etc. One common question is about brightness. Most office projectors will put out in excess of 1500 AND I Lumens which is enough to illuminate a 6ft screen nice and brightly even in average office lighting conditions. If you're intending to put this in a room with lots of glass and daylight then you might want to think about a large flats teen TV instead.

Remember to budget for a ceiling bracket, long power cables, long data cables ( possibly with amplification for the VGA depending on length) and a projection screen.

Panasonic make some excellent business projectors, the lamps aren't too expensive and the warranties are great.

Room is quite small I'd say 3m x 3m, and the current projector is just standing on a shelf projecting onto the wall.

Quite a dark room, so no issues with lighting.

Needs to be VGA and no sound is needed.

Tbh, a 50-55" TV on a wall mount would be more than sufficient; and wouldn't need to be ceiling mounted. There'd be very little heat generated either. The only issue would be no VGA on typical TVS. Solve that with a VGA to HDMI convertor.

yup at 3m by 3m for the room....a 60 inch tv sounds more workable, less noise, heat, more flexible w.r.t light, similar price when you consider bulbs over 10 yrs....

but if light in room is manageable and your set on a projector , then i would favour lowest lumens = less heat = cheaper/gtr longevity = less fan noise.

presumably its for powerpoint not movie watching..

just need to check that the projector supports ceiling mounting and the necessary amount of lense shift/zoom for the dimensions of room. any trusted brand would do, i go cheapest available.

Don't forget that projectors have ongoing costs that direct view displays don't - filters, lamps and the higher power draw in general.

You can get a Samsung 55" professional display for ~£1200 which will be perfect.

Not quite the same, but working in a school we go through a fair few projectors.

Casio LED ones are our preferred option these days. Lamp free, decent warranty (5 years) and life expectancy in excess of 20,000 hours. They are bringing out a cheaper model soonish, the XJ-V1, which should be available for about 500 quid ex-vat.

I cannot link to the website as it's a competitor, but what about the "Optoma S310"

<£200 and can be ceiling mounted. Resolution is only 800x600, is that fine?

optoma are a reasonable budget brand from my experience..it only has vertical correction so the mount point will have to be in line with display.

re: 800x600..set your laptop to 800x600 and confirm its ok for your apps...should be fine for powerpoint presentations..
