Hi,

I’m looking at buying a projector to link up to my Xbox.

Can anyone recommend one? How much do I need to spend to get something that’s going to be half decent?

Thanks in advance

I run an optoma uhd300x on a 130" screen for my Xbox 1x and PC.
4k image looks great. Its not real 4k like a TV panel but still looks damn good.

HDR performance is not bad.

Relatively quiet unit. Mine is ceiling mounted just behind sitting position. I can definitely hear it when volume is down on whatever it is I am watching but mostly wear headphones so non issue.

Playing doom eternal on PC at 4k settings and HDR on 130" screen is pretty epic. And the uhd300x can be found for under £900.

But, the 4k picture quality and HDR is not up to a modern oled/qled panel. But size makes up for it.

I have the UHD300x too, and use it with my One X. It's full 4k resolution, UHD sources look great on it. It uses a pixel shifter to get that resolution, (displays 4x 1080p images very rapidly), but the resolution is there.

If you were happy with just 1080p you could certainly start with less, but imo with such a large display it's worth having the extra resolution.

If you want a short throw I'd highly recommend the Viewsonic PX706hd.
I tried out the BenQ and Optoma 1080p short throws but the Viewsonic was the best for gaming.
I've been using mine every day for over a year now and its made the telly redundant :)

I've currently got the old benq w1070 which you should be able to pickup for £200 odd used. Depends whether you're going to use the 4k resolution. I have read the Epson W2700 is pretty good for £1200-1300 for HDR and quality, although as above its using pixel shifting.

Other optionn is to get a high end older 1080p projector (Sony HW40ES et al) which will have better PQ at 1080p, better image quality, better contrast, more cinematic picture processing and motion, no DLP rainbow issues but you have to sacrifice 4k and HDR.

Same model as me, like you, no complaints (well until I had to send it back for repair when the HDMI board went south)
