Projector resolution problem

Hi all, I am not sure what section this belongs in, so apoligies if this is not it.

I am having problems with a projector (Epson EMP-83):

1. If the output resolution from the source (PC in this case) is anything other than 1024x768 (lower or higher) then the projector displays an 'out of signal range' message.

2. When it does show an output (on dual display clone mode) it only shows a portion of the screen... about the top third. It is also very distorted (squashed).

3. Related to numbers 1+2, in the info section on the projector menu, no matter what the computer reports the output resolution to be, the projector reports its current display resolution as 720x486

The main source computer in question is a dell optiplex 780 with intel series 4 graphics chipset and latest drivers installed, running windows 7 pro. The same thing happens from dell latitude d620 / d630 laptops, also using intel onboard graphics but running a mixture of windows 7 pro and XP pro.

I am sure the projector is OK because if I connect one of my personal laptops (packard bell butterfly touch, also running intel graphics (x4500) and windows 7 HP) to the projector then it works and displays perfectly and all of the above issues disappear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance.

1) The resolution of the projector is 1024x768, so is there any reason to send a signal smaller or larger?
2)So even when its at 1024x768, its distorted?
3) is this over VGA?

1) No, but the projector should still work / display an output on lower resolutions. I was more just saying that it was just another element that was not working as expected.

2)yes, icons etc are squashed and elongated and I can only see a strip relative to about the top 1/3 of what is displayed on the computer monitor

3)Yes

Thanks

Yeah it should output lower you're right.

Hmm, Not sure tbh. Something wrong with the settings on the PC if it works well with your other laptop.

I had thought that originally, but the settings seem to be the same, and as I said it also affects various laptops etc... basically all of our dell equipment is affected as near as I can tell.

Also, even when you make changes to resolution settings etc, the projector seems to ignore them and remain at 720x486 (strange resolution?)

.

Ive had a similar problem at work on projectors go into the menu and check what aspect ratio its on for example check its not on 16:9 and change setting to view the whole screen 4:3 or somthing like that

not sure if this will solve your problem but its worth a try

Aspect ratio is set to 'normal' as default... which seems to mean 4:3. changing it to 16:9 makes it slightly less squashed, and changing it to 4:3 doesn't seem to do anything.

I think that might be the res of SD TV?

you tell me, that is why I am asking :p
