Friend of mine wants to buy a projector and asked me for recommendations, but I know hardly anything about them. His budget is £250 for both projector and screen, and distance between the two will be roughly 4/5m. Screen size will be roughly 60" and needs to be ceiling mounted. Main use will be with a Chromecast, so ideally it needs a USB port for power. He also wishes to connect to his sound system as well, and already has a 3.5mm audio cable running from it. Not too fussed on quality, he seems happy with 720p, is it possible for a decent projector and screen at this budget?

personally i'd ignore the screen and put all the budget into a projector, if he can stretch another hundred and has a light painted wall the optoma h183x is 350 at richer sounds, would recommend a demo first though for rainbow effect.

Thanks for the suggestion, he actually does have a blank wall that's a sort of lightish grey so will see if he's fine with that.

I managed to get a second hand 720p projector which I am currently installing in the spare bedroom for £100. For big screen film watching it is great and in my opinion does the job I was after.

Check out AVForums classifieds.

I have an AV Receiver so Fire Stick goes in the back HDMI in and then a long HDMI lead connects the projector to the AV Receivers Out.

Second hand all the way here. The main thing to look out for is how much a new bulb would cost (as long as it fits the other criteria for inputs and resolution) as this will be the major expense. Don't be fussy about manufacturer.
