hi guys i have this cooler and i have the Akasa Apache fan on the side of this thing. i have got an i7 overclocked to 4ghz, temps are normally up in the 60s for gaming sometimes less i tried prime 95 the other day and they hit up at 80!!

i think this is too high and would like to keep it cooler.

should i put another 1 of these fans on the back of the cooler or would anybody recommend a better fan?

thanks

There really is'nt a better fan at the moment for coolers, unless u wanna go deaf and use delta's.

Getting a second will help the temps thats a given, so its worth a shot.

The faster viper version of the apache (1900 rpm) would be a good choice for fans, also depends on other factors such as case airflow, voltage required for your clockspeed, also worth checking to make sure that the cooler is seated properly, with a good thermal paste application.

what are the temps like at idle ?

also , what sort of voltage are you giving the chip to get 4ghz.

is the wiring etc within the case sufficient to allow decent air flow, what case/case fan layout do you have.

i got the ramgage 2 extreme with 6 gb xms ddr3 plus megahalem and apache fan as a bundle from overclockers clocked to the 4 ghz.

so ime not to sure about voltage, cables could be a little tidier i guess its sitting in the Haf 932 so plenty of room and lots of big fans pushing out a a lot of air 2. idle temps in the 40s id say

check in the bios should be able to identify the voltage being given to the processor.

is the cooler seated properly, do all the cores temps go into the 80s when prime'd ?

just did a quick prime there yesterdaym torture test.

only did it for ten mins now as i was busy doing other bits!!!

on core 1 it hit 71 other cores around 67 68 69

are these acceptable for an i7 up at 4 ghz

Which prime95 test did you use? Small fft will generate more heat than blend. If those temps were using small fft then theyre very good.

I use 3 x akasa fans here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-059-AK with this special fan cable here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-031-AK&groupid=701&catid=48&subcat=153

I put 2 x vipers as a push-pull with my prolimatech magehalem cpu cooler and 1 x viper at the rear exhaust (outtake) and the fans was quite running 1075rpm in PWM and it rise to steady 1749rpm with a 4.20Ghz overclocking with room temp of 23C with core temp of 77C, 74C, 76C, 73C.

i like the look of those temps and those fans, i might try the push pull system. i have the haf 932 so there is plenty of connectionfor extra fans. there is also a nice few big fans with this case so there is a good air flow going around it aswell.

i must have a better look at prime 95 aswell

your temps look spot on for that bundle MrPink

sounds like you have done a great job with the cooler mounting.

we stopped shipping the apache fan with bundles as we had to compensate for bad cooler mounting so a faster fan had to be used.

a lot of customers need help in getting it seated correctly which means they experience crashes and overheating

but those temperatures would be nothing to worry about on a bloomfield chip anyway, I would call it above average.

if you get stuck with anything then the customer support forum is always available if you want to speak directly to me or any of my team :)
